Why does the gearstick in the small K series transmission ( ie 25/45)always shake as you driver along. This never happened in the 600 which had a different box.

Jcn27 - welcome to the forums!

The gearstick wobble you are experiencing seems to be a characteristic of the R65 gearbox fitted to the 200 & 25. It does not affect the MGF as it has a cable operated change.

I'm not aware of a fix or indeed the problem area - to effect a cure would probably require a complete re-jig of the remote gear selector mechanism.

That's interesting as my mk3 has the R65 box and I can't recall the gearstick ever wobbling!

Mine does it all the time, although it does improve after a good service:D

Could you describe the nature of the wobble?

Is it an excessive side to side motion...

I will check more carefully on mine when I drive it 2moro but I am prety sure I haven't noticed it wobble b4 :eyes

Is it not a Peugeot box? which are know to wobble especially in first when accelerating.

Can be cured with new gearbox/engine mounts.

Yep my mk3 has the wobble too, common through the range.

Yes, it is a Peugeot/Citroen box.

It's generally a good gearbox and is fairly simple to work on and repair:)
