if you mean this CD player http://www.gmax333.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ForumPictures/RoverCD.jpg
no metal prongs will be of use unless they are in the form of allen keys :D

What you need to do is flip open the little flaps on the side of the stereo, simpy push on the edge on them and they easily come open) The stick your head down and you will see some nice shiny hex bolts. Get your trusty allen keys (the smaller ones) and try until one fits (as i cannot remember the size) and simply unscrew the bolts. Once you have done both sides the stereo is free.

I think this design is much better than the prongs

I have loosened the bolts with the allen key but with no joy. The unit is still too tight to get out, what can you suggest

you need to make sure you keep unscrewing the screws until they actually tighten back up and you cannot turn allen key any more(anti-clockwise). Stick your hand behind the centre console from passenger side and push on stereo it will then pop out. Make sure you have one hand round front to catch it :D

At the risk of sounding cheeky and/or opportunistic... what are you planning to do with the 'old' CD player? If you want to sell it, I'll definitely buy it off you. Please let me know either way!

This is, of course, making the bold assumption that you're taking it out in readiness to upgrade and not just taking it out for the sheer hell of it!!!
