Just a quick one! What is the factory setting of a turbo on a MG ZR 2L TDI?

Cheers guys,

Steve:taz:

about 16psi, or 1.1-1.2bar

Is it really 16psi?! I only thought turbo's run at that when they were tuned. I must now get myself a boost gauge and do some reading about turbo's!

diesels run much higher boost than petrol turbos, a tuned diesle runs 1.5bar+ normally

Boost gauge is ordered!!!!!!!!

Thanks again,

well i think the rovers td only run about a 1 bar standard, maybe the mgs are different, i have mine running at 1.5 bar for a while now with little problem.

nah 25 and zr run same power, same boost, engines are 100% identical

would it not depend what way they came from the factory there hardly going to be all identically set the same on the actuator.

actuators will come pre-set from garrett, so not all 100% identical but all within the same tolerances, they wont adjust 1 set for 25 and 1 set for ZR, where would the 25 make the power if it was running less boost?

well suppose so, well mine was def 1 bar standard thats all im saying.

maybe you got on the bottom end of the tolerences then, 3 turns on actuator is genrally an up in boost of around 3psi and most owneres find thats 18-19psi

Also actuators usually go soft with age and so boost pressure decreases with age.

My old van was supposed to boost at 13psi and it was only boosting at about 7! Other engines have shown similar things :o

The sdi's run at 1bar, the 25/45/Zr/Zs at 1.2bar, hence the higher torque they make.

As for safe pressures: 19-20psi seems fine - had both my 45's set at this with no probs. (Only about 2-3 threads left on the actuator rod.)

Possibly your boost gauge is not accurate, many aren't.

could we check the turbo boost without any boost gauge ? cheers

would be interesting to fit a vnt turbo in a l-serie engine ,just we need to make an ECU to control the turbo boost , http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/turbos/gt15-25.php

or this better :naughty: lol

Check 3/4 of the way down the page, in regards to checking boost pressure.

My 420's only got two or three threads left on the rod. Does this mean the previous owners already adjusted it?
