hi all,
has anyone suffered from an annoying cold start problem, with your diesel engine, my engine coughs, splutters, and jolts from cold, but runs like a dream when warm, and its driving me bonkers.......

Could be glow plugs are up the creek? mines a bit lumpy if i havnt started it for a week... but everyday shes fine.

Is it all the time? or just every now and then?

thanks for your reply.

i have changed 3 out of the 4 hot plug already with no effect. could get to no 4 as the diesel pumps in the way.
happens every time, from cold till the needle is 1/4 way on the temp gauge.
ive been told that the hot plugs are only used to fire up the engine, and thats it, then its down to the conbustion?
the fire up is fine, may be down to the choke? or the egr valve,
but what ever it is , its driving me potty

Yeah things like that willl wind you up.

Wont be the choke as Dervs dont have them, but seems strange how its always when you fire it up from cold and is fine when it gets warm. Does it hold back when you boot it at all, or when under acceleration it pulls alright?

Just wondering like as it sounds like something it not working properly when being used, filters all alright i presume?

yes, when running from cold, the engine does hold back, then sometimes you get a big jerk of total loss of power, then picks up and off she goes again, blooming strange

Sounds like air getting into the fuel.

Check/change the priming bulb near the fuel filter and make sure all the fuel pipe joints/unions are tight to and from the filter and pump.
