I was cleaning it carelesley with a tissue when i heard a click and a bit fell off.

The cars a 99 420sldi and i hear that the maf mainly controls the egr and car still drives fine so I'm not too bothered about buying a new one or should I be?

What else does the maf do?

If it is a 400 rather than a 45. Then unplug the sensor. Also unplug and block the vacuum pipe to the EGR valve. It'll run fine so long as the car doesn't go into limp home mode.

Try it and see.

The MAF sensor doesn't control the fueling at all on the earlier 200/400/600's.

The cars running fine so far but will try it anyway.

Just wondering if the maf does anything else, don't want to lose mpg or performance.

The MAF sensor on the 200/400/600 only controls the EGR system (hence why I said to unplug the EGR valve). Otherwise it doesn't do anything else.

On the 25/45 is controls the fueling for the engine too, but not on the earlier cars.
