One of my mates has a 218sdi and has had a new clutch replaced. the feller who fitted it said he needed a new flywheeel for an extra £30. When he asked to see the old one the man said "we didn't keep the old one"
Has he been ripped of? how durable are the flywheels?

I'd like to know where he gets a flywheel for £30. More like £130. (Or maybe that's just the lightened types).

Sounds fishy to me.

I've never heard of a flywheel wearing out though....?

"One of my mates has a 218sdi and has had a new clutch replaced"

Clutch replaced again?

The only way in which a flywheel can wear is by the action of the starter motor pinion on the ring gear or by the clutch plate lining rivets (if the plate is worn)

Are you sure the flywheel was replaced or just re-faced? Refacing would be £30ish

Or the ring gear could have been replaced? Again, that could be £30ish, too
