Auto Express try the MG ZR Diesel in this weeks issue.Same old "dated design"words and pictures which they cant resist adding every time they try a 25 or ZR,and is criticised for its stiff gear change and noisy engine, which is a BMW unit. They do,however, praise its performance, handling and driver involvement as well as its frugality and point out that there is no other outright sporty diesel available from any manufacturer at this level. So it should sell well then!.

Kevin said " a noisy engine, which is a BMW unit"
Kevin, the engine in the ZR TD is the 'L' series unit, made in fact by Land Rover!
BMW only supply the engine for the 75 CDT, being the 4 cylinder M47R engine.
Does the ZR-D have a sports exhaust?

Looked through the Auto Express article and indeed the article makes reference to a 'BMW sourced unit'.
Also refers to the 'latest technology' when in fact the L series has been a round for some time. I wonder if they had have known it was a 'Rover Group' unit would they have been equally flattering?
John
The reference to 'Latest Technology' refers to the fuel injection pump and six-hole injectors, which are apparently quite new and advanced. The power hike in the L series engine over the old 200/400 Diesel is down to the use of this equipment.
The L Series engine is definately sourced from PowerTrain/Land Rover.
All the spare parts for it are prefixed by Land Rover part numbers.

Perhaps we should email AutoExpress and tell them to get their facts right!.

On the AutoExpress website the error has been corrected,it now says "a Rover sourced 2.0 litre",to late to change the magazine, not to late to fire the journo!!.
Just don't believe everything you read in the rags:D :D
My mate's dad has a ZRD, and it's fine! Yes, you can tell it's a diesel, but it still goes some, and that's the whole point, isn't it? Advised him to get the side skirts to finish off the "look", and it looks better for them.
The only thing he's not too sure about, is that people keep trying to race him!
Incidentally, next weeks Autocar magazine will be doing a main feature on the TF, and it will probably be on the cover as well. - Looking forward to it.
