ron - you mentioned about exploring other maf calibrations a while back with the increasing efficiency of the mods (egr, decat and so on)
I can't remember the gist of where things were going, but should I still go for pierburgh replacement (having the Synergy) if it intend to decat and egr-bypass too, or was there another one to explore?? (you were exploring the 330d one)
Now that I've got the air ducting removed completely back to the airbox, I find it increasingly hard to monitor whats happening/how it feels! There are too many moving variables...

I did try a BMW 320D maf on the grounds that its basically the same engine but found that it was incompatible. In fact even the BMW's need to have their firmware updated to use this later maf.
I did try it with a mafam which defeated the object of the excercise (being a genuine Bosch maf, it was £135+vat so it would have had to be a direct swap for the Rover one to be worth considering)
So we are still left with the trusty Pierburgh maf instead of the Krusty Bosch one. But still only replace your Bosch one if it doesn't respond to the various Synergy settings.
It could be that once all the intake & exhaust mods (inc egr bypass) are done, the Synergy firmware's maf settings will need revising as I have more than a suspicion that the mods are affecting the maf. (Understandable if they alter the airflow)
Once I receive one of the final egr bypasses, I will do more testing.
I know what you mean about losing track - its even worse for me, because the X-type has the opposite throttle response to the 75 so I keep wondering what is 'normal'.

that's useful. in the meantime, I'll go back to square one, turn off TU3 range and recheck maf...
Your point about the Xtype is interesting. I came to the CDT from a 6 speed TDCi 130 estate, which has the same sensitivity that you are now experiencing... almost a la 205 gti. It will be interesting to see if X type owners like the idea of the 'detune/desensitize setting' for the box that you wrote about somewhere else...!

I think this sensitivity is why the fuel consumption is not as good as my 75. Its too lively!
