: Is it worth it?

Hi Folks,

I'm still contemplating mods to my ZS120+ but wondered if you could offer your advice.

For £100+ Is a throttle body upgrade really worth it? I do lots of motorway driving so I don't want to reduce the fuel ecconomy at all, what does it do to your consumption and does it make the car feel quicker?

Second: Is an induction kit worth it for £70+? I want to boost my performance (and increase my fuel ecconomy if possible) but I've heared some people say it screws both up, is this true?

Any comments or suggestions?

Cheers

Ian:)

Just be mindful of the possible warranty implications Ian

The TB and Induction kit will only cause your car to use more fuel if you use the extra performance or push the throttle down more to 'play' with the induction noise (roar)

Combined together, the fuel consumption may well be slightly improved - bonus:D

Is it worth it?

Very much so, IMO :D

Oh yes, its worth it for the "grin factor" alone=P

Thats why performance air filters are SO popular and the throttle body is not in stock..........IS IT DAVE>=(

No sorry, it isn't in stock

Supplier issues :( >=(

You lot will be the first to know when we get 'em back in =P

Thanks gents. Say for arguments sake you only had the pennies to do one of the above at this time, forgeting the spares "issues" which would go go for first?

Cheers again

I know it's no help but I'd go for the bigger TB first :D

Dave, just been looking around the web and saw this clasified add (cut and pasted)

New, unused OE 48mm 1.8 K Series Throttle body assy complete with throttle potentiometer.
£40 inc P+P

Is that what I'm after and should I go for it?

Thanks again you're magic

Ian

It'll be the same as what you've got Ian!

You're after the 52mm job :eyes

To maximise the performance of the induction kit you should consider a cold air feed.

A lot of cars actually lose a few bhp after the fittting of an uprated kit, because warm air is induced into from excess engine heat.

The cold air feed will ensure a supply of cooler air and thus benefit engine performance.

Spot on Steve - PiperX AirForce kits are what we do :)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you (been parachuting!) How much does a PiperX Air Force kit cost? Is it possible to modify the normal kit with a hose of some sort into the airflow at the front grill?

Cheers

Ian

Well i dont like to put a spanner in the works here & The Dr will be intouch i bet!

I have the same Engine in my 218 mk3 & i have tried both them Mods basically & guess what.....
The Car is back to standard..
Reasons

1. That Alloy TB looks the bis but its only 4mm bigger than the standard 48mm Plastic one & unless the originl one is sticking or there is something else wrong with it i would keep your money, Why i hear you say well i was fortunate to have the chance to try one on my car for a couple of wks & i swopped them back over several times & done the ECU reset thing too.. & the Car just went the same you think its better but i think thats a mental thing IMHO... Anyways the Plastic is still on now & unless it breaks its staying put i can do alot more with the £97 that that Alloy one Costs.

As for the Air filter unless you supply a cold air feed pipe it just makes a lot of Noise, fine if this is what you want but not for me.. keep ya CASH & get other more useful things

What Wheels do yas have on ya ZR by the way i fancy getting mysel a set of them 16" Hairpins ??? oppinions ???? Thanks

Graham

Hi Gra!
You do seem to be the minority here - we have fitted quite a few to MGF/200/25 etc etc and everyone has commented upon the power delivery etc etc

Even Lotus Elises have been very popular with this mod

Induction kit? I'd go for one everytime - it has to come down to personal choice!
Standard air intake systems are too quiet for me - I need some noise and YES a cold air pipe:D

This would be a good topic for the new "How Do I?" section, along with the fitment of an air filter, as a lot of questions have been asked about this.

Your 120 will have an alloy body of 48mm diameter versus the 160 body of 52mm

All the latest cars (12/1999-> have alloy TB's)

I'll double check on my ZR120in a mo:eyes
