Hi Everyone.

I have found this site to be very helpful, since cars aren’t what they used to be. Being a girl I thought in the past I did a pretty good job at fixing my own car, screwdriver and hammer in hand. Now a part from the odd job, I seem total unable to fix anything anymore, that’s computers for you.
Anyone to the point in hand. Since owning the car, on 2 occasions my car took longer than normal to start, usually takes about 2 cranks, but these other times took several attempts, like it was lacking in fuel. The gauge showed just under a quarter of a tank, after finally getting it started on both times I drove straight to the petrol garage and filled right up. Problem solved, thought it might be a faulty fuel gauge, but on two other occasions I have run the car until the yellow low fuel light has been on.

My husband borrowed the car about 2 weeks ago and I warned him not to run the car to low on fuel. He was coming down the motorway at 70mph when the car just cut out, again the fuel gauge was showing just under a quarter, he pulled onto the hard shoulder , waited 10 minutes, it started back up and he got it to the next services and put a £10 in. Car started OK, drove another 50 miles then filled to the brim at Tesco’s, cheaper than rip off prices at the services.
Since then the car is very sluggish, it almost feels like it has no Turbo, when you change gears instead of a little spurt on, it is totally flat.
Could this be something to do with my Turbo, or the fuel pump not pushing enough fuel through ?. I daren’t overtake anything anymore, much too scary.
I guess I’ll probably have to take it to a garage in the end and pay loads of money to get it checked out, but thought I’d ask you guys/dolls first if you have any ideas.

Thanks for any replies I get.

Sorry I copy and pasted the first post, the 1st bit at the start got lost.

Meant to start off with

"My car is a 2001 cdt 75 and i bought in December 2006. "

I put this 1st as some people forget, so i made i point of putting it 1st and then lost it.

It really sounds like two separate problems.

The first one could be down to the tansfer fuel pump.

The second problem sounds like a MAF sensor fault. Try unplugging the electrical connector to the MAF and see if the car drives better. This is a VERY common problem.

Crank sensor will stop the engine and cause starting problems as well. Its 60 quid but a code reader will tell you if there is a sensor out.
