: Capri or Crappy?
Hi Gang
Sorry for non-MGR post but i like to ask what you non-Ford people think of the new Capri?
Well
I guess most of you will have seen the new Capri in Autocar. Sorry but i don't like it at all. The shape is wrong, hate the bul***** air vents.
But its the name that's wrong. I remember the Old "Carppy" and for me it just sums up all the Cr*p of the 70's. Ford look at the Capri and see a Euro-Mustang, i see a Cortina in drag, **** poor build, **** poor handling, chest wig styling.
The last time i saw a capri it was an Brown ***** heap with a light brown vinnel roof! It had "Turd" writen all over it! I don't think i am the only one to see it that way!
I hope to God they DON'T do it!
Mega
king arthur 09-09-2003, 20:34 I agree for once Mega, I don't know why Ford keep trying to hark back to the 70s with new "Capri" concepts. If there was a market for such a car now people would have bought the Cougar.
Of course, it will take a company like MG Rover to do it properly.... :dddc:
kevsterjw 10-09-2003, 08:12 i didn't even know they were bringing out a new capri, any pics anywhere?
i loved the old one, it looked fast :D
GrumpyOldGit 10-09-2003, 11:39 It puzzles me that everything has to be knocked. Ford announces a new concept car, the Visos, and it immediately gets hammered.
All we have to go on is an indistinct sketch where you can't even see the car properly, but already it's a bad thing. I'm going to wait until I see either better official pictures or the real thing before making any judgement.
btw I owned a Capri 1.6 GTXLR and in it's day it was a superb car. Load of cack now of course :) but they have great street cred today if in good condition.

maybe in ur world - if anyone pulled up in my collage in a Ford Capri, they'd be mobbed and beaten for being so cheesy  - do you actually know what street cred is???? :twak:

Looks like your college might be behind the times a bit then. :) It was mentioned in the Telegraph last weekend that the old Capri is cool again. Only, I repeat, if it's in good nick. Whatever you might think, it's a classic car now. Mind you, just about anything that old that still runs is a classic car!:p
Course I know what street cred is. I watch Clarkson, the world-renowned motoring expert of street cred.

Oh please - the telegraph that says it all - sorry to say it but the capri is as cool as the perm for men (ahem Clarkson). I dont mean to put u down GOG but there is no way that a Capri is cool. You cant say it is just because he telegpah says it is. You have too look around you and see. I see alot of people modding MG's and Rovers - i dont see anyone give a ****e about a capri.
king arthur 11-09-2003, 21:07 I just can't see another car like the Capri ever being a success again in Europe - a niche, aspirational car with a mass-market badge? Won't work anymore, times have changed.
PhilTheGreek 11-09-2003, 21:27 Apart from the Nissan 350Z, of course.
The nissan was designed in america - how stupid, when everyone knows the japanese design stuff 10 times better. But thats Renualt for you. Im afraid its bad news for Nissan - there fault for being run by the french.
Is it a UK thing?
I don't understand why the capri is cool, can someone explain to me please?
PhilTheGreek 22-09-2003, 21:54 Andy,
It's quite simple:
Da-na-na-na, Da-na-na-na-na-na, Da-na-na-na!
Cue: Bodie opening the door without looking at the handle
Da-na-na-na
Cue: Doyle running over to the Capri with a Browning .45 in his hand.
Da-na-na-na
Cue: Capri skids and crashes into cardbord boxes.
