Hi all just a little thought, how bullet proof is the diesel engine in your R75/ZT?
I have previousley owned 4 older audi's the last one being an audi 100 2.6l v6. ( great car but kerb weight to low for new caravan ) so used to german build quality. I have owned my R75 tourer 2.0 cdt for 2 years now and covered 24,000 miles, the mileage now is only 83,00 miles here is a list of the faults that i have had during ownership in order of failure

1. in tank fuel pump £230 no labour
2. Egr valve (sticking open tried cleaning ) £30 (Ebay) no labour
3. Maf sensor £75 german replacement no labour
4. Engine temp sensor £25 no labour
5. Injectors rebuilt ( 1 totaly us 2 on way out ) £400 no labour

Total cost so far £760 plus normal service item costs ie: filters ect.
luckilly I am able to carry out all mechanical repairs myself but it is a b*gger to get diagnostic help. It seems that i have had all the common faults available on one car, I hope there are not any more.
Regards Gary.
Ps. Roverron's tu3 is a great bit of kit for the price.

Well i have had my car from new. It's one of the most tuned CDTi's around. It's done 65K miles now and here is the list of faults I have had:-

1. A faulty MAF

err, that's it!

I really recommend the use of Millers Pro Plus fuel additive. It appears to help prevent fuel pump failures and injector problems from what i can see.

The good news is that things that do fail rarely go a second time so any money spent is an investment in the car's reliability.

I can never understand when someone spends £100s or £1000s on fixing problems and then sells their car beacuse they fear something else will fail.

The low purchase price of any Rover makes them work spending money on but you can do a few things to help longevity.

Use Shell Extra diesel
Put ZX1 in the oil
Use fully synthetic oil, I use Millers XFD.
Use Millers in the fuel - always. (Its cheaper if you buy 5L from fasteronline.co.uk and adds about 1.5p/litre to fuel costs)
Change the oil and filters twice as often.
An extra £2-300 per year on servicing and additives is money well spent in my view.
