I'd say Alonso is on the bigger pay packet.... for the time being!

Alonso will be as he is the more established driver, and he has 2 world championships to his name. Despite the mass craze, Hamilton will be earning a lot less, but his wages will be rising sharply by each round of the season:)

Apparently, Hamilton is on £250,000 this season, and £3000 bonus per point.

So he has already doubled his salary through his points scoring.

Probably Hamilton this year because he's an ad man's dream and by the end of they year he may have won the championship. He's popular in the US, he's young and he has a similar appeal to Tiger Woods.

Didn't Hamilton get a million bonus though because he was leading the championship at a certain point? I thought I heard that somewhere.

I'd heard that too - leading at the season halfway point, IIRC, but not sure of the amount.
I reckon the lad deserves it too.

I agree. Everyone says he's been molly coddled, but I think this weekend and Monaco proves he has done this based on pure talent and McLarens driver equality policy (which I rate very highly).

I think Hamilton earn more than Alonso, Hamilton cashed more from vondafone, some watch company, Merc (same as Alonso) and many more..

British have huge buying power( maybe the second or Third biggest), and all support Hamilton.

I guess salary is just a tip of iceberg

This is apparently Hamiltons Salary.

Lewis Hamilton has been granted a pay-rise after reaching the middle of the 2007 season as F1’s championship leader. The impressive and ultra-consistent British rookie started the season with a modest retainer of about (US) $400,000 and a $10,000 per point bonus.

As of the British grand prix, then, he made his first million. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, however, a clause in his contract was triggered at Silverstone, the ninth round of the season.

As he passed the half-way point of 2007 at the very top of the drivers’ world championship, Hamilton automatically qualified for a cool $2.3m bonus. If he scores another 50 points in the remaining eight races this year, Hamilton’s initially paltry salary will have ballooned to nearly $4m — disregarding any more contractual bonuses for possibly winning the title.

Taxman's dream.

How long before he's offski to some tax haven? I have seen reports where he reckons he won't be, but to keep paying tax on that kind of income.

Not for long!

Fair play to the guy - the way in which he winks and thumbs up to the cameras compared to those other stale faced (*******) drivers speaks volumes in my books.
