: Might be getting a ZR......
...Just a few questions really :)
1. How do you lot rate the ZR105? (i know your all biased)
2. What colour do u reakon looks best, cos i really cant make my mind up...def not yellow though. Maybe the antracite or blue ??
3. It just aint low enuff for me ??? Like my cars ridiculously low. However cos its a new car and that will it invalidate any warranty or **** ne thing up??:D want to go around 60mm with the 17" straights...will it be alright and can ne one recommend ne kits??
Any response greatly appreciated :D
Thanks guys
SteveChilds 06-02-2002, 08:54 Hi, I haven't driven a 105 as yet, but it has the same suspension setup as the 160, so it will handle every bit as good as the 160.
Lowering it might be tricky, Dr Dave should be able to comment on whether its a) possible and b) recommended, but I wouldn't have thought it was recommended on a new car, because it for sure will invalidate the MG warranty. To be honest, its quite low as it is anyway, go much lower and you'll have problems clearing speed bumps (as I found in my 'F!) - but if you like your cars that low, you'll know that anyway.
The 1.4 sure does have a fair bit of umph, but just bear in mind the run-in period and that they do take a few thousand to properly loosen up.
The best thing to do is find a dealer with a 105 on demo and ask for a test drive. Try and avoid cars with less than around 700miles on the clock though, as they won't be very good demos. (Engine still tight & not run in) - I drove a ZR160 with 63miles on the clock, it was dreadful! Slow, brakes were crap :( - Drove another ZR160 with 700 miles on the clock and it was like a damn scooby! (ok, perhaps a slight exgeration, but you get my drift! ;))
And make sure you get the side sills as an option. Saw one in the dealers in Weston last weekend. Looks unbalanced because it has the front/rear spoilers on the bumper, but doesn't have the sills...
For reference, they were offering the ZR105 with 1 year free insurance and 0% or low rate finance(I think) for £9995..
Seemed like quite a good deal to me...
Cheers for the replies peeps.
Steve, want to lower it just to make the gap between wheels and arch disapear....the 17's look quite small  They'll look a hundred times better when the car is slammed :D
Nick..i noticed that it looked a bit odd without the skirts so i best make sure i dont forget to add them as an option :)
Someone must have lowered there MG ZR or Rover 200??
Also what colour do u thinks best guys....quite like the Anthracite. Sales man at my local dealership said the paint has a pearlescent finish and it goes black....purple/red? Is he telling porkies?
Cheers guys, this site is quality :)

Colour? Personally I think the ZR looks best in bright yellow. Not sure if I could live with that colour every day though...
SteveChilds 06-02-2002, 12:47 Thanks for the complient on the site :)
There are lowering kits out for the R200/25, whether these go low enough for you is unknown. The subject of lowering came up at the w/end when i was chatting to Dave, that was for the R200 too...Thanks for the complient on the site :)

He'll be able to suggest something I'm sure, he's probably rather busy at work though today, he should reply tonight though.
Colour wise, anthracite is nice, the purple/red comment is a little exagerated though, yes it does have a hint of that to it, but really only in direct sunlight. For me, XPower Grey looks fantastic on the new TF, dunno if its making its way onto the ZR though, LeMans green is simply breathtaking!

Trophy Blue is pretty stunning too! Trophy Yellow isn't bad for a solid colour, but it does tend to flatten out the car's lines where as Trophy Blue and LM Green are pearlescent, they seem to enhance the look of the car. Pearlescents tend to be more striking than normal Metallic paints too.

I've got an anthracite 160 and I think it looks the dog danglies. I really only wanted solid black but they don't do it :(
However I'm happy with Anthracite=P
It looks black from a distance, but more bluey when close up and it's bright...
Makes the car look more mean....:D
SteveChilds 06-02-2002, 13:08 ceeghb, do you have a digital camera or any photos of it, I wouldn't mind adding it to the Image Library, I haven't got any photos of a Anthracite ZR.

Is he telling porkies? In a nutshell, yes. I have an anthracite ZS180. I looks fantastic with, as has been mentioned, a nice bluey tinge. :D However, it is not pearlescent but metallic and there is no purple/red hint. That sounds more like the Pirates Black that the Honda I traded in for the ZS had. Nice colour but very different from Anthracite.
I've seen ZRs in red, blue and yellow and would say that my favourite is the blue - but it looks good in all the colours really, it's just a question of degrees.
S.
Thanks for all the replies :)
Like the blue, just need to see the anthracite to decide...
Just need info on lowering now then :D ....''Dr Dave?'' =P
I GOT MY ZR105 JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS GOT THE SIDE SILLS AND 17" STRAIGHTS IT LOOKS FAB,PERFORMANCE WAS POOR FOR THE FIRST 1000 MILES OR SO THEN IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER I ALSO BEAT A NEW MINI COOPER AT THE LIGHTS AND ITS JUST AS QUICK AS MY LAST CARS I.E. TWO SAXO VTRs GO FOR IT
YOU KNOW LIFE IS TO SHORT NOT TOO.........8)
Hi Gary
If you lower your ZR you would (a) Spoil the already good ride (b) Wear out the bottom of the car(!) and (c) Invalidate your 3yr/60K bumper to bumper warranty.
Is it really worth it??
I have fitted lowering springs to a few 200's....which drops them to the ride height of the ZR.
Any spring manufacturer could wind you up a set of springs to your specifications....then the ground is the limit!
Cheers for the reply Dave....maybe i wont bother then! :)
How low is the ZR in relation to the R200?
Cheers
Gary
Amaranth 06-02-2002, 22:14 My R200 looks like a tactor on stilts!!!:)
I tink the ZR is plenty low enuf and the skirtage gives the visual impression of a big drop. Anyway if you wanna go low-rider stylee remember big wheels + lowering = potential major hassle. You will lose the sweet ride & potholes will ride like caters. Arch rolling will be needed(if possible) and scrubage a dead cert.
Just in case you were wondering all R25 + MG adopt the sporty suspension setting from the superseded rocket R200vvi. I suspect the ZRs are tweeked further.
Amaranth 06-02-2002, 22:18 ...oh yeah ..welcome to the cause!!:D
Now to get rid of all those poxy Saxo's & Nova's.

That's why! when you put the address in the window pop-up, you put in
file:///c:/windows/desktop/mg1.jpg
when you try to put a picture, you can only put up pictures that are on the internet by using the address (url) e.g: http://forums.mg-rover.org/images/logo.jpg

I tried your links and got:-> "We're sorry, but this page is currently unavailable for viewing"
Bah! Bloody geocities...!
:twak:
I saw the two pics and they look very good!
The problem with geocities is that you cannot source the pictures from them. You have to open a new browser, then copy the address and paste it onto the address bar (and 'enter' of course) to see it.
Bloody geocities...??? According to the terms form geocities, it is forbidden to :
'Pulling files from your GeoCities account to a location outside of Yahoo! GeoCities, such as auction sites, message boards, and other web sites.'
atomicstate 10-02-2002, 08:38 Curse those fiends at Geocities!
Hope this works:
