Well on saturday i'm gonna have a look at this. Not so keen on the colour in the pics but might look better in the flesh.

93(K) ROVER METRO 1.1S Manual,
3 door, Hatchback, Blue, 70200 miles, Sunroof, Service History, Stereo, Colour Keyed Body, Rear Spoiler, Radio Cassette, Cloth Interior, 12 Months MOT £595.

From a dealer aswell. What you people think a good price? hopefully not any rust on it.

take a magnet with you and see if it sticks to those arches!!!

That may have had a slight previous knock, check out that slanted pass headlight and the bumper has clipped off by the arch slightly:(

That looks immaculate from the pictures for that age car and mileage!. And well worth the money, i paid £700 for mine couple years ago, no S/H etc...
but it did have 54,000 on the clock lol.

Have you done an HPI check? that may explain the headlight situation, and also get it done anyway. Wish i had done it when i bought my 220SD :(
But yeah check under the carpets in the front for damp, check the rear arches.
Apart from that mate, it looks well tidy :)

have a good look at that front light because if the damage is enough to knock the light like that then it may cause a bad headlight beam then you may have problems getting it thru the mot.

other than that check for the suspension sitting square or wether it may look a bit low as the suspension may need pumping up.

apart from that other things it actualy looks like wuite a tidy car but if it has been in a heavy front bump then that may explane the fact it is in such good condition due to a full re-spray.

hth si:bgrin:

Stu C
13-11-2003, 15:58
Pumping the suspension isn't that expensive, i had to have the nearside pumped up for about £15 IIRC.
HPI checks arnt that expensive compared to the major cost of the car. I think around £45 ish, someone feel free to correct me
I know steve, looking at that metro i still miss mine sometimes :D, but if any of that rubbish with the 220 didnt happen, i wouldn't have my 600 :D

Also a nice set of alloys on that metro and clear side repators and rover 100 rear light clusters, would set it off nicely.

May be a little expensive i sold my m reg 95 r100 1.1si for £900 and that had fsh,
full gta kit incl. alloys spoiler skirts
rcl
toad alarm and immob
not a spot of rust
68k on the clock
platinum silver metalic paint
sun roof

Oh right, well ive got a feeling alarms and central locking were intoduced in 1994 :( so maybe there might be some scope to knock the dealer down. "oh its not got an alarm or central locking, dad that might increase the insurance"

..looking at the other headlight they both look abit resessed.

14-11-2003, 08:04
It's got a full MOT, so that's not a problem. TBH, if it goes ok for 12 months, and won't pass another MOT, you've still not really lost out...

Stu C
14-11-2003, 14:39
Just make sure you have a good inspection if your that worried, but if ur happy with it, go for it :)

Its somewhat sad that I might know this, but anyway: it probably will have central locking and an alarm/immob.

I used to have a 93K 1.1S Metro. When I bought mine, there was the choice of two: one registered Dec. '92, the other Apr. '93. In terms of spec, they were pretty much identical, except that the exterior had red insert bits instead of silver, that went all the way round. My guess is that the one there is an earlier one. However, both had the alarm/immob. and remote central locking, as the major spec. change had already occured by that point (the addition of the rear wing, red belts, and the "snazzy" red/green(?) threaded cloth). Models prior to this didn't have those features.

Anyway, I'd say go for it. Just check for rust on the rear arches! And for any impact damage front and rear.

Oh right cheers. Theres another one near where i work and where my dad bought his car in Jan, it has the red inserts its an M reg so its either a Gta of S model dunno what engine size it was it was kidda dark and the place was closed. Its n a blue/green met colour and is £895 which is probably too much id be prepared to pay £70 ish i think. The cars he sells there are genrally mint aswell so i have a feeling it ont have rust. Wunt look good selling rusty cars would it.

Stu C
15-11-2003, 10:46
It wouldnt look good selling cars with rust on the outside mate, but check under the carpets for damp etc... as there may be concealed problems.
Also you'de be suprised at the amount of newer 100's i see with rusty arches :(
If i had the extra money id get meself a 114GTa i think there great little motors to drive :D

Si
15-11-2003, 11:30
yeah but what you have to remember is that he is only 17/18 year old and he does have to insure the car.

even though the gta is only a 1.4(i think) the insurence is still going to be horid.

If the front's a bit wonky, it's probably 'coz the old duffer who owned it previously crashed it into the local supermarket!!:D
They're always doing it from what i see on the news! :yikes:

Craig MGR

Well the £895 in brit racing green was a 1.4 GTA was lovely though inside, mint 46,000 no rust either. Pedals seemed less offset that in the 100 for some reason. Loved the sport seats too. Anyway my dad was called out on a job today so could not go and see the blue one , however phoned up and the bloke when i asked said there is no rust and its got central locking, i think i sounded a little too excited/interested on the phone ohwell.

I'll be able to teach my Corsa owning friends a thing or two about dynamics, apparently the Metro is much better than its contemparies in this dept. Such as the 1989-95 Fiesta , Nova even Corsa.

Craig MGR
16-11-2003, 14:58
Well went and had a look, yes the front passenger side looks like its had a small bump, bumper is slightly away from the arch , and the very end of the wing where it meets the front bumper at the front its very slightly bent. There is a little overspray on the wonkey side rubbing strip on the rear wing/ next to the passenger door. However apart from that its look great, paint work in pretty good nick no rust on the arches and interior looks in good condition, nar the grubby headlining.

Gonna go back 2moz for a test drive, (was closed today you see) however we will make out we havent been and pick out the above faults hopefully anabling us to get the price down to around £500 which is more or less banger money.
It has got an alarm too and the C/L.

What do you think i should is it worth it?

What should we look for on the test drive?

Stu C
16-11-2003, 21:09
If you can get ti down to £500 then great, try and get a test drive on ur own if possible, i know not always the case, but hey lol.
If you can, you can inspect the car in great depth without somone looking over your shoulder.
Check for clunking on the rear wheels, hard to get gears in the gearbox, and smoke.

I think thats bout it, unless anyone else can halp me out here?

Stu C
16-11-2003, 21:30
My metro 1.1S in my own name would have been £1200 3pf+t, went in my moms name lol, £700.
Went to my 600 for uni, £750 and group 10!

Hopefully going in my own name next year for £1600 :D

Craig MGR
16-11-2003, 21:40
Group 10?? :err: you sure about that its only 1.1 , what group are they in BTW?

Stu C
16-11-2003, 21:42
No lol, my 600 is group 10, my metty was group 5

Craig MGR
16-11-2003, 21:44
Doh! "600" i get it.  ...its late and am drawing maps for my geog coursework. Well we are going 2morrow morning, to test drive, surely if i was a learner stuff liek the clutch would have been replaced etc...its probablay been out of learner service for what years at least. Well the carpet will be deffinatley up 2morrow.

Stu C
16-11-2003, 21:49
Well mate, from what i gather its your first car, is it? dont mean to be wrong lol! No offence but when i had mine, i messed around with it, but if i had a bang or anythin it was a metro, nothin special and not expensive to fix, what with millions of them in the scrap yards.
I got my first 12 months motoring out of mine and loved every minute of it!
Its a car that is easy maintanence, easy engine to maintain and learn the basics from.

From the looks of the car, and if you get it to £500, you should be ok with that car matey!

Well i didnt buy heres a run down the problems
-on the test drive it just didnt want to go over 70, managed to get 80 just, seemed it didnt wanna rev above 3000rpm in 5th, fine in the other gears thou
-Pulled into a car park so we could give the car proper check over, it started to overheat
-One of the front indicators didnt work
-and guess what infiniti peeled back the carpet and yes nice BIG hole in the ich think deadening, arch was covered but next it was not, rough cut aswell
-Radio didnt work
-Not to mention the little bit of overspary on the side rubbing strip and wonky passenger wing.

Noticed the deading wasnt there before the test drive, but we learnt alot today, the Metro is a great little car , nice ride, nice a nippy and very quiet and stable at 70mph. My dad seemed very impressed (he drove it not me) and he drives a m2 414.

It didnt have C/L either he said it did on the phone lol.

Big thank you lot though really, you have been great, ive become a Metro anorak overnight and quite proud i (well infiniti) spotted the driving school car bits.

there are some crackin metro's out there, so youve made a good choice not buying the firs minger you see.

i got my metro gti for £300

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~carlos/metroside.jpg

Fair enough, it did have HGF, but it came with a reciept for the lowering, which was £485, and had been done only 6 months prior.

if you have the money, id buy private. again, you dont have to buy it on the first looking, and you seem to have been given sound advice on what to look out for.

if you are prepaired to travel... youll pick up a bargain. i went to basingstoke  with my brother to get mine. we were quite prepaired to walk if it wasnt what we were after.

On a metro subject, my sister bought a H Reg 1.1L over 3 years ago. She paid £1000 for it with 42K and 12 Months MOT.

Commuting to uni and working in her gap year for car rental firm, she has clocked up a further 30K. The only things that have since needed replacement were tyres and a battery.

Shes taking her final year now - so if you work it out £250 a year for a car is dirt cheap motoring!!

Metros / 100's are cheap run arounds with go-kart-like handling. They are real cheap to fix, but crash safety is poor.

Try and get a later model with airbag as i regularly see low mileage M/N platers advertised at £800 - £900, also with alarm, C/L and the facelift.

Steve

Good move to walk away mate looking at that. Keep looking and you'll find one sooner or later - there are loads of them out there.

Even an 1100 Metro ought to be able to break 70 - I managed to get definately into 3 figs on my long private driveway, although there is a downhill slope...

Although, 70 is all I would sanction on the public highway... :naughty:

I squeezed ~95mph out of my 93 K metro 1.1 not that long ago. Got mine off my gf's auntie for £250 (she had a new car and wanted quick sale)... FSH and 33,600 miles. No pics atm, but I'll sort some - its got a little bit of rust but overall is a nippy little runner. I do need a replacement driver door though as this one is bent at the top a bit cuz of some scrote breaking in prior to me buying it (I bent it back best I could though - no wind gets thru, but I think its gonna be weak). How much would I be lookin at for a door from a scrappy?
