: supercharged ZS180
Roverdose 09-04-2008, 18:13 its been a while but i have eventually fitted the supercharger to my ZS180.
the kit fitted very well, few issues that i would like to look at further...
the throttle cable seems too short. it works but runs over the top of the charger. i will find one that it a little longer to use instead.
the supplied case for the piggyback is a bit too big to fit anywhere and look good. i will make something that looks a lot better.
thats it really.
im using the supplied piggyback for the moment, which does a perfectly good job. i will be looking into modifying the std ecu in the future.
so, pics..

i do have much larger pics but they were too big for photobucket!
you may see the charger cover does rub on the sound deadening material, i may look at some small spacers for the back of the bonnet to lift it slightly. although you may also notice the original power steering pipe also rubs on the sound deadening!
power.. needs a little more development :(

Supercharged...

i have gained 35bhp, but i dont feel its enough just yet.
drives very well, no issues so far. it does need to be driven differently as i have lost a chunk of torque where ive got used to driving.
only other thing is, i cant really hear it! does whine but just not loud enough. so im fitting a bmc next week. that should get me a few more horses too. i will drive it round for a while clocking up some mileage to see how it performs.
after that i will be tweeking the std ecu to find some more power.
cheers
Drew
Rapid Silver 09-04-2008, 18:44 :) Good to see someone else is trying the sprintex route as well as George (RSM).
Hope you don't have the same issues the others have had with 'charger failures etc.
I still fancy having mine 'chargered at some point but a lot depends on cost.
Bobdope2002 09-04-2008, 19:17 so if i read that graph right its only running 210 with that SC kit on
im assuming that the car is compltley standard bar that????
I laos fancy having mine supercharged at one point
Roverdose 09-04-2008, 19:19 i have a de-cat too, but yeah 210bhp.
Drew
Bobdope2002 09-04-2008, 19:33 i have a de-cat too, but yeah 210bhp.
Drew
isnt that a bit low, i mean majorly low????
The induction change shold give 6-8 bhp more. Does look low from others ive seen even with an extra 6-8bhp. I think an open cone in the inner wing would give the best results.
210bhp seems low but the sprintex kit was designed for 220ps wasn't it. The ZT went on sale in Australia as a ZT220 :)
Roverdose 09-04-2008, 20:59 yeah its lower than i want. will need some development.
Drew
Hats of to you though wish I had the guts to try it, hope you can squeese a few more horses out of it.
Roverdose 09-04-2008, 21:08 thank you. got it booked on the rollers next thursday, bmc + look at map. dont think ill tweek the ignition till its been running for a while.
Drew
Seams very low drew.
mine makes more torque than std, and 229atw.
have fun
Ross
bruciebonus41 10-04-2008, 10:50 is this kit only suitable for the v6 or will it do us lowly 4 pots?
Only the v6 can cope with it I think ,other 4 pots would pop.
Bobdope2002 10-04-2008, 15:58 Seams very low drew.
mine makes more torque than std, and 229atw.
have fun
Ross
do you drive a Zs supercharged????
Roverdose 10-04-2008, 18:22 its made to fit the v6, wont be any use on a 4 pot.
mine does make more torque than std, its just moved up the rev range.
yes it is low, but im not going to b/s people with random power figures. this is what it does atm, i need to play with it some more.
Drew
do you drive a Zs supercharged????
yes i am Real Time
Rapid Silver 10-04-2008, 21:15 Ross, is George doing any S/C conversions yet?
Now you and him have sorted the problems out.
it is comming, its not far away either, just a bit more reliablitly for one more componant, but a track day looming and pod will show how it will be
note a lot of things have been changed in different to this thread and pictures etc.
if you are seriously intrested in a charger Pm or email george. as he will get the chargers.

Bobdope2002 11-04-2008, 15:48 yes i am Real Time

Drew
stamford 12-04-2008, 12:17 Hi George, I remember you well, was a pity you had to sell it. But great news that you are getting better and able to have a 180 again, what a great lift for you. Good to see you back.
GEORGE ZS180 12-04-2008, 12:29 HI nice to be rememberd, and it will be very nice to have a zs again waiting for some funds 2 change accounts and alike, will take about 3 weeks to sort it, its gonna be a long 3 weeks wait ???? just bin bsck to the garage its now in the show room with a big sold sign in it
stamford 12-04-2008, 12:41 The time is going to drag! I hate having to wait for a car it seems to take forever. It will probably take a while to get some pics up when you get it as you will be forever driving it!
Roverdose 18-04-2008, 16:45 fitted my bmc, its still quiet :( made more torque though..
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/Roverdose/RollRd9.jpg
still needs a bit more boost.
Drew
you cant here the charger whine???
Roverdose 19-04-2008, 19:13 yeah, its just not as loud as i was expecting.
Drew
have you heard mine on you tube? its quite loud indeed, its perhaps because i have a inner wing filter (open)
any idea on what this has cost todo ?
Rapid Silver 23-04-2008, 16:49 any idea on what this has cost todo ?
George from RSM will be doing S/C conversions soon but he advised 180 owners to have done all your other mods first (i.e. induction / full exhaust inc manifolds / cams if you want them etc).
Reason being the S/C conversion needs a new ECU which can't "learn" like the stock Siemens unit.
I believe the cost was somewhere around £3k.
114cabriolet 23-04-2008, 17:44 fitted my bmc, its still quiet :( made more torque though..
still needs a bit more boost.
Drew
can you change the pulleys and create a bit more boost?
Roverdose 23-04-2008, 21:01 coud do, need to make sure its running as it should before i start modding it too far.

so on top of that were looking at £700 for stainless manifolds , £300 for sport cat , £350 for ITG maxogen £??? for cams and then £3k for the supercharger - oh well thats the end of that dream if its a £4.5k plus cams and fitting manifolds etc
you will not need manifolds or cams to make good power, infact i wouldnt have them on the car at all, its been proven you can make 266bhp with a STD charger STD boost, induction kit and decat, my car does that.
you can get a cheaper filter that give same gains.
