Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if this stuff is MTF-94 Gearbox Oil?

I am a Honda owner hunting for this illusive fluid to try out in my Y1 / Y2 gearbox (as used with B16 DOHC VTEC)- most Honda dealers seem none the wiser.

I have ordered some of this anyway and it arrives on Thursday so we'll see what the story is then. It's costing £13+VAT

Nearly everyone on the largest American Honda forum (62,000 users) swears by MTF, and there are various US Honda service bulletins advising use of MTF over 10w30 due to premature syncro failure. Some UK Honda dealers know all about it, others haven't heard anything about it and use engine oil in gearbox changes.

BTW when i asked Rover for some MTF-94 they looked at me with blank faces. :err:

Any comments would be appreciated,

Thanks :)

Certainly looks like it.

MG/R use MTF-94 in their boxes and have done since about '97 IIRC. Rover released a tech bulletin about it at that time.

So you should find what you have ordered to be exactly what you want :)

The fact Rover looked at you with a blank face doesn't surprise me - it worries me that they *still* aren't paying attention to what are very old technical bulletins now, however..
