Although I'm pleased that the MG Z cars are selling well and proving to be very popular.

I am annoyed, saddened and worried that Rover is almost forgotten. This site may as well be called WWW.MG.ORG !

I'd be very interested to hear why MG ZR owners chose to buy the MG rather than the Rover 25 Gti - which MGR have now dropped !

The site does cater for everybody - but the Zeds are very much in the news at the moment, so it is inevitable that the topics should revolve around the new MG Zeds.

There are plenty of members here with Rover products.....all you have to do is have a quick look arouns and you'll see!

David, I know there is a heavy MG bias at the moment, but its to be honest, that at the moment is what brings people to the site. I do intend to add more Rover coverage in the next month or so, but its hard work at the moment balancing work & this site. Not to mention I'm also moving house this week, it all gets a bit hetic :(

I do hear you and there will be more Rover content coming online in the coming weeks.

No real probs with the site. I think it reflects MGR's business at the moment. That being 70% MG and 30% ROVER.

I would be interested to read the comments of MG Z car owners though. New MGR customers in particular : For example a ZR160 owner, who probably in the past never considered a Rover 25 GTi or Rover 200vi.

Why ? The image, The badge ! After all there is very little difference between the ZR160 and the 25 GTi/200vi.

Why?I think you were asking more about ZR160 owners who didn't buy a 25GTi. However, FWIW, I bought a ZS180 having never previously owned either Rover or MG products. I did test drive a MGF several years ago but ended up buying a MX-5 as I felt it was the better driver's car. =P Before the ZS, I was driving a Honda Civic and was toying with the idea of changing, test driving a Leon 20VT. However, until the ZS came along, there was nothing that interested me without spending more money than I really wanted to spend - though I was wondering about an Impreza. The ZS gave me adequate performance, a great driver's car and that fantastic sound track, all for a reasonable price. :D Until the Leon Cupra 4 reaches these shores, there isn't much by way of competition, IMO.

Would I have bought it if it had a Rover badge on the bonnet? Almost certainly, yes. Provided it was the same car, of course. In fact, if the styling were a little less "extreme", I would have probably had fewer reservations! However, I would have reservations about putting a Rover badge on such a car - I fear that it would only serve to confuse the brand image.

Err Rover owner here:D

I understand what the argument is about however, MGR will I believe concentrate more on the MG name for the near future.

I don't think we will ever see another Vitesse again, although I may be misstaken.

Personally the Vi is a good mota, and I would possibly rather have one than a ZR.

There are other Rover Forums about, may I suggest you try them too, as I do:)

personnaly i think the MG brand should be marketed as similar to BMWs M badges. I think this would help customers to see MG as the motor sport section of Rover which would inturn improve Rovers somewhat midle aged image. At the moment it is quite dificult for people to see where Rover ends and MG starts which can only be a bad thing !

The main reason i chose a MG ZR? i liked the the way MG were heading with their range of cars Xpower etc. I would rather buy a car from a company that is aiming to make such an impact on the market, because it means when it comes to selling my car the image of company over all will help. Plus they look cool :D

Agree that MG's are the car of the moment, and long may it continue, but as a recent convert to Rover cars i am impressed with the amount of support both brands get via this and other websites:)

I like the new MG's but i think the rover side is being neglected, how many car adverts can you see on the telly? how many are MG/R? answer- 2. if they put more effort in advertisements then more people will buy them.

I used to be the proud owner of a 200vi and my cousin has a ZR160. So yes I have driven both many, many times.

Personally I prefer the vi. However I accept that the ZR will be more popular amongst younger drivers due to it's looks.

I don't want to feel every bump in the road and I dont want to hear the engine. However I DO want to leave everyone else behind at the traffic lights.

Currently MGR do not cater for someone like me who doesn't want the 'boy racer' looks of an MG-Z !

I suppose the old Vitesse models are my kind of car.

Reason I said it David, was that my 25GTi felt flat compared to the ZR160 we now have...

Dave,

Out of interest, what are the main differences between the 200vi, 25gti and ZR160 in terms of engine and suspension etc.

I had always thought that the 200vi and 25gti were the same.
