: Help modifying bubble shape rover 416 (400)
strigoivii 02-01-2009, 17:25 Hi there gang, may i first say what a cool site and nice people =)
Ok i own a Vreg (99) 416 IL Saloon (bubble shape)
I am looking to change the somewhat mundaine interior, my friend is breaking a '45 which has a nice black leather interior.
Mine currently has the green leather benchseat stylewith a cream & mahogany dash.
Will i be able to swap out the:
Dashboard
Door Cards.
Front seats
Rear seats
strut covers etc
from the rather nice '45 into my boring 416(400)?
Both are the bubble shape saloon and a first glance i think its possible?
Really appreciate your help on this one guys/gals. thanks...Lee
Dean Carr 02-01-2009, 17:28 ive heard their is welding to do as the seats use different brackets but dont take my word for it!
i would have thought all the other pieces would fit, though.
monkeygrinder 02-01-2009, 23:05 Could I ask what you're planning to do with you current interior? And do you have any photos? :bgrin2:
strigoivii 03-01-2009, 12:54 wow, speedy responses thanx.
Im hoping they didnt change the floorplan regarding the front seats as easier if no welding needed, however if need be my friend can do the welds so thats ok. (thanx Dean)
As for the interior from my existing car (Monkey), im not too sure this will all depend on whether i swap out the dashboard etc and go for complete restyle, if i dont i may have to keep the cream dash - in which case i will probably replace the cloth parts of the car and the floor carpet so that the are black, giving a creamish and black interior. Regarding photos I shall get round to adding some soon as im able.
Ill be attempting the restyle about 13th jan as thats when the donor car will arrive. Ill do my best to let you all know what i was able to change etc - though some of this may depend on the condition of the replacement parts =) I guess im just going to have to rip out everything and see what fits lol.
Ill keep ya posted.
Chrisund123 03-01-2009, 13:07 You'll need rear seats from a donor saloon, as hatch and saloon rears aren't interchangable. Also front seats from a 45 to a 400 aren't a straight swap, as Dean Carr pointed out they changed the mountings so you will probably need to do a bit of modding to get them in.
strigoivii 03-01-2009, 16:47 Thanks (Chrisund) yup the donor is a 45 saloon, shame ive ordered new bodykit as the front bumper and bonnet mouldings etc look like they would have also gone straight on so i could have had the nice angel eyes headlights that are available for the 45'series, oh well standard 400 lights will have to do until some aftermarket ones become available.

oops guess they are for the 400 sorry not the 45' my bad, sorry gang
Also (sorry to go on and on ) but is it true that rover 200 lights will fit my model if so im thinking of the black rove 200 angel eyes (hatch) if they fit that would be awesome?
Once again thanks Gang =)

If yours is a "bubble" 400 (and I'm guessing it is by the way you're talking about fitting a 45 interior) then I would say no, am sure that the 200 bubble lights are a lot more swoopy and tapered at the inner (grille) end.
If you are thinking of it due to the advert in your above link this is refferring to the 200 & 400 "wedge" models, which were pretty much hatch & saloon versions of the same car.
Heres a link to some pics of 200/400 front ends

Am sure IF it could be done MGR would have to save money.
Edit:
:slap:Just seen in 1st post that yours is a '99 bubble!
strigoivii 04-01-2009, 13:29 Thanks TBZed, im waiting to hear back from a stockist as to what lights they have available, doesnt seem to be too much for the saloon model, plenty for the hatch in the way of rear lighting but jut few for the saloon.
so by difference as in tapered etc do you mean they would fit but there may be gaps between them and the grille etc? if so i dont mind getting the grille re-fibred or re-moulding and flushing the gaps?
its frustrating as for the rear i want the chrome lexus style lights but they only do the ones i want for the hatch and im guessing its totally differnt shape.
Im going to go breakers yard this week and buy some 200 lights etc and see what modding can be done i think.
I guess i need to mailshot some lighting firms and try some persuasion =)
