hello, i have alot of oil on the front of my engine and think it is the rocker gasket, i have cleaned as much as i could today so soon i will be able to see where its coming from, the rocker gasket is an easy fix i know.
i do not know much about heads and head gaskets so just thought id ask the experts (again i know lol) :
if my gasket does need doing is it just a case of taking the old gasket off scrapping all the old bits of it away and replacing with a new gasket or,
does it need pressure testing etc.....
Thanks much,
Ian

If your head gasket needs changing, then you don't need to do any more than strip, clean, inspect (flatness, pitting, indentations and liner heights) then rebuild. However, from your description, this won't be your problem. External oil leaks from the K head gasket are quite rare, cam cover and cam oil seal leaks are more common.

There's no liners to worry about, no pressure testing - I severely doubt your head gasket has gone. Almost infinitelyt definitely fine, and no - diesels dont commonly fail due to hgf.
However, even mine seems to leak oil from the top, so id like a new gasket for my rocker cover too. If you know where to get one then ace, tell me. ;)

lol,
your local parts dealer i.e. partco etc... i priced one the other day 17.50 kris m8
not bad - i looked at the engine today and where i have cleaned it it seems to be leaking oil again from rocker cover gasket or the gasket which is directly below the rocker cover gasket(dnt know what this one is called)
