Okay So it's wrappped in a Freelander HSE, but at least I am adding to MG-R's coffers a little! It has the same air vents, glass sunroof, and interior light as my Sterling 827SLi. This means it already has that little bit of familiarity about it which I am very happy about. I Bought the Freelander because MG-R still look to be a year or two away from coming back to the States with their more mainstream ( I know the SV may come here) stuff. I want a Rover Vitesse or MG ZT, saloon or Tourer. V8 or KV6. RWD or FWD I don't care as long as it is an MG-R product. I have been waiting 13yrs for Rover to come back but I need a car to supplement the Sterling.

As soon as the MG-R products are finally available in the U.S. then I will trade the Landy in for one. In case anyone is interested the Freelander is of the 04 facelifted variety. I wanted a white or Silver HSE with the 5 available options, and Black/Alpaca beige interior but got tired of waiting for this combo to show up. I ended up with Black exterior - which I swore I would not have again - with the Black Alpaca interior and the 5 options.... Heated seats, Parking distance control, Harmon Kardon stereo, 18inch wheels and fog lights. I should get it this Saturday or Monday as it is up in Sacramento over 400 miles away!!! The dealer at my end is doing a "dealer trade" for it. Basically they send one of theirs to the other dealer in exchange for it. It has to be delivered on a flatbed truck so once they have arranged this it will be here. I have an idea for the number plate but I will keep it under wraps until I see if it is available.:) :) :)

Oh! I think I'm right in saying that Mr Woolley was responsible for this facelift, so I am going to be driving a vehicle massaged asthetically by the Rover 75's designer. Boy it makes me wish that even though they are now seperate entities that Land Rover and MG-R could still collabarate on certain projects. I think it could benefit both companies. Certain MG-R cars could feature on road AWD engineered by Land Rover. (With suitable badging of course) Then perhaps in the States the "Land Rover only" outlets could sell these MG-R products for people that desire a second more conventional type of car. Or for people who would never consider an SUV of any kind but like the cachet of the ROVER name. I think this association could work extremely well for both marques in the North American market.

I've got a better idea. Scrap the freelander, give me the KV-6, I'll put it in my GT-6 and everyone will be happy.

I'm in the USA, so even though gas has been going up lately it is cheap by UK standards.

Didn't notice you were in the US. :)

To give you some idea of the cost, my usual two weekly drive of mainly urban miles I travel around 330 miles which costs me round £55. At current exhange rates thats about $100 US.

Still far cheaper to run than my Scooby was though. :)

Cheers

To fill my Sterling which is 17 U.S gallons is about $35 right now. So I do about 300 miles a week. at 20miles per gallon that is a little over $30 bucks. So I expect the Freelander to get 16 -17 average. It weighs about 350 pounds more than the Sterling so I think that should be about right. A US gallon is only 16fl oz as opposed to the IMP 20fl oz. So If I an correct 8 US gallons is only Six of yours.

Sounds about right Stephen. My 75 is 15.4 UK Gallons so about 17 US Gallons. If I take it as far as I dare it takes around £46 to fill up which is around $80 US Dollars. Not sure about how many Canadian Dollars that would be. :D

I am picking it up Monday and i can't wait! When I drove one about two years ago it totally felt like my Sterling did when it was new but on steroids. And as I mention there are other Rover type things on the vehicle so I will feel right at home. Now I can go a bit easier on the Sterling. I have brand new European headlights that I will install soon. And I am going to have the whole front bumper taken off realligned and repainted. I pushed against a railroad tie(Sleeper) about two years ago that was just ahead of the parking spot at work and it tweeked it. The Sleeper was there to prevent cars from going too far forward and doing damage to a roll up door.....It worked!! But messed up my bumper.DOH!

I was just checking available number plates on the California DMV's website and my first choice "MG ROVER" Is already taken Hmmm! I wonder who owns that?? I can get "ROVER X4", and as my Sterling is ROVERXX (XX being the factory code for the 800 series) this might look okay. I can also get "MGR XPWR" or "4X ROVER" I also think "KV6 PWR" is available. Or "PWR.X.MGR" The periods or full stops I would add. Any Ideas?/ WE can have a max of seven letters.:)

The only way I am going off road, is if I miss a turn on the freeway and go over the enbankment!! I just like the feel of the car/truck??) and am not into four wheeling at all. Mind you I would like a Rover Vitesse V8 Tourer with on-road AWD. Now that really would be a car to covet! Mmmmm!:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Hope you enjoy the Landy, Stephen!

btw - Woolley and Geoff Upex penned the range stormer concept i think. and upex also came up with a more futuristic proposal for the 75 dash (according to an article i read ages ago!).

Dan.

Good luck Stephen - I hope to meet up with you in our MG-R's when they finally re-cross the pond!
In the meantime, please try your Freelander off-road. I think you'll find that is what makes the difference between a Land Rover and a regular SUV!
