: MOD MAD !
David Lee Newsham 20-02-2002, 19:38 I may upset a few people with this post....
Why are there so, so many people buying the ZR 105 and then modifying it !
Surely if they feel the need to modify, then the car does not suit their needs.
Perhaps you have all bought the wrong car.
Or is the ZR 105 (unfortunately) attracting BOY RACERS who perhaps cant afford to buy, run and insure the ZR 160.
In my opinion the ZR should only be available in the 160 version.
It sounds like there are going to be a lot of used, thrashed, modified ZRs around in 2/3 years time.
ichatfield 20-02-2002, 20:24 If it sells, then that (certainly at the momement) is the important thing?
snellgrc 21-02-2002, 15:46 i think the ZR 105 does have its place in the market, its a bit like the old metro GTa 8v's eveyone knows the GTi's are better but there is still the market and modifications for the GTa
the ZR 105 is also great for people that like the sporty looks but dont feel the need for 1800 cc of vvc power. the 105 is no slouch.
i agree that its a waste of time to buy a 105 and then ask how do i get more power, the simple answer is buy a ZR120/160 everytime
THIS IS WHY I BUY CARS SO I CAN GO CRAZY ON MODIFICATIONS THE ZR LOOKS AMAZING THE WAY IT IS BUT HAVE CHANGED MY WHEELS FROM THE 17" STAIGHTS FOR A SET OF MILLE MIGLIA ACTIONS AND IT TOTALLY TRANSFORMS THE CAR. IT ALSO MAKES ME INDIVIDUAL STANDING OUT FROM THE CROWD WHEN I GO TO SHOWS.
ITS GREAT FUN AND JUST A HOBBY DONT TELL ME YOU DONT HAVE A HOBBY
David Lee Newsham 21-02-2002, 19:49 I just feel that the MG badge is being tarnished or watered down, particularly with the ZR105/120.
MGR should be aiming to position the brand to rival BMW's 'M' cars and Mercedes' AMG variants.
Unfortunately at the present time MGR just want to shift big numbers of cars at the expense of the MG Rover heritage.
Should an MG really appeal to Saxo VTR drivers ?
JohnSwitzer 21-02-2002, 20:28 Hi David
Yes, I think MG should appeal to Saxo drivers.
Traditionally, MG has been an affordable, uniquely British, volume sports car and I sure hope it stays that way!
Personally, I feel that the current MG philosophy 'Outrageous fun for all' and 'More power per pound' sum up the original MG proposition very nicely!
John
Totally agree with you John - Saxo VTR drivers are just what MGR are after with the ZG ZR variants:)
This is a very lucrative area of the market, where cars are seen as status symbols - the more spoilers the better....
If people want to modify their 'cooking' models, then that's fine by me!
OliverZR120 22-02-2002, 14:25 I think it is very wrong to consider people modding their cars as a bad market sector. This mainly because its the people who mod the cars that keep them alive. Like me anyone who has had experience in modding cars will tell you of the benefits. And on top of all this MGR could hardly afford to have such a snobbish view of those customer who cannot afford their top models. And then we come to the biggest problem insurance. I'm 20 and i was looking at various cars but when i heard of the new MG Z cars i new i wanted one. I could have just about afforded the VVC ZR but when it came to insurance everyone said NO WAY! so i had to settle for the 120+ thinking that i would keep it for two or three years so when my premiums fell i could mod the car to give me the performance i wanted. Am I mad or should I have bought a CIVIC!!!

snellgrc 22-02-2002, 16:19 MG should appeal to all
MGR needs to get into the saxo vtr market, but are they really going to tempt anyone to get a ZS 180 instead of a subura impreza or evo VII.
the 105 is still a fun car to drive and can have great fun on the track for a beginner.
JohnSwitzer 22-02-2002, 17:27 ...are they really going to tempt anyone to get a ZS 180 instead of a subura impreza or evo VII?
With respect, I think Imprezas and Evos are in a different market to the ZS. The ZS180 saloon has a reccomended price of £16,395, whereas the Impreza WRX is coming in at £21,495 and the Evo VII at c.£30,000.
I would envisage the ZS's principal rivals as being warm (ZS120) / hot versions (ZS180) of the Volkswagen Golf / Bora, Honda Civic Type , Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon and Ford Focus.
So far the sales figures indicate that yes, they are tempting punters away other alternatives.
John
REMEMBER THE SAXO VTR IS THE FASTEST SELLING HOT/WARM HATCH AT THE MINUTE SO IF THEY CAN MORE OF THEM IT WILL BENEFIT THERE FUTURE :eyes
