Dave,

Have just bought a K reg 214SLi . Was driving it home and it konked out. I thought it had run out of petrol so I pushed it to station and filled up. Ran fine for about 5 minutes and then konked out again but this time as I was coasting up to some traffic lights. Couldn't get it going for about 4 minutes and then it started. The same thing kept happening ever now and again. Have you any idea what this could be

Thanks for any help in advance

Roger

Dave,

Thanks for your speedy response. Where on the car is the crankshaft sensor and how much are they to replace. Do you know of any suppliers (SE London). Is this a job the amateur mechanic can pull off

Sorry to be a pain

Thanks for all your help so far

Roger

It's situated on the back of the engine, below the inlet manifold/throttle body and it points towards the gearbox.

Replacement is fairly simple, just don't drop the small bolts!

Any MGR dealer should stock it.....about £26

Dave,

I must write again to thank you. Fitted the part and the car runs like a dream now.

Much appreciated

common fault on 1.4mpi's. luckily the mechanic i use was the head mechanic with rover appleyard in ayr before going solo. he diagnosed the fault you explained straight away just as dr dave did. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
