I have an irritating engine ticking noise.
Best I can describe it as like a tappet noise only more "tinny".
Increases in line with the revs. Any ideas.

Does the noise comes from the intake manifold?

Hi Guys. Tks for the quick replies.
It's a V6 24 valve 2.5lt engine.
The noise seems to be coming from the "top" of the engine.
Sorry, I'm not technical enough to know what that bit's called.

Oh dear mate thats not cool... the part that is rattleing is the inlet manifold now it can be a few things that are causing it.
1: The power butterfly motor has stopped working.. easy fix if your good with a soldering iron.. heres the how 2.

2: The Inlet manifold itself is broken to fix at a xpart garage its about £750.. BUT there are ways around it and if your good with a spanner you can get a second hand one and do it yourself.
Have a hunt round the forum and you will find out some more... would find the links myself but im a bit pressed for time at the min but I can hunt them out tonight if you wish.

No, that's fine lawrence - I'll look myself. In respect of my prowess with a spanner - I just about know which end the handle is.

I had the same problem with my 2.5L engine. I disassambled the VIS motor and rotated the valves by hand. I tried to open de VIS motor but stopped when it didn't opened. Put the VIS motor back started the car and the rattle was gone. Maybe it's a coincidence but it worked for my car and I don't have to spend €1200,- which my MG specialist :-(( asked for a new inlet manifold.
