:D :D :D :D About 10 days ago,(and also last week) I mentioned that I had heard a rumour(s) about a Rover debut (R60) at the Geneva auto show early this March. As I only had "one" source I didn't put too much stock in it!.

Now,...if you check out todays "Autoexpress" website, they have confirmed that MG-R "will" be displaying a "Concept R60 " at L'auto salon de Geneve!! YEEEEHAHHH!! "Pass the champagne please!".

Hopefully it is a "visual knockout" and, is also donning.. (Notify:Kirk Douglas please)... a "Viking longship"!! The X60/MG's can wait, MG have had lots of "great" press of late. Now, it's ROVER'S (RE)TURN!! O.K. members lets start talking about this fantastic event, I'll even be....SERIOUS!! Because, I'm peeing my pants with anticipation! (What a pathetic lonely life I must lead!. "sob!" )

:) :) :) What pics were those Eddie? if they are the "ones" from "What Car" (originaly published in their sister publication, "AUTOCAR" ) they're old. Pre MG-R(Rover group/B*W era)and as such, would not I think; be indicative of where Peter Stevens is headed with Rovers' "New styling/design direction!!" P.S. Autocar, have also published "speculative" pictures of the R60 two other times since the break-up.

I don't think MG-R have released any "official photos" (at least those that they haven't placed a press embargo on.Just ask, Steve Childs!. ) and won't until maybe, next tuesday. Otherwise it would be a pretty anti-climatic unvieling!! Remember, the world's press will be at Geneva next week, so it's a huge "photo-op!" (read as:FREE PUBLICITY!! )

:) :) :)NEWSFLASH! I've just arrived home and have been conducting my little daily "ritual" of surfing the internet in search of MG-Rover news!!. (and believe me I search a.... LOT!! )

Well,... since I wrote "my reply" to "EDDIE" 7hrs ago, "another site" (mgcars .org ....hope you don't mind) Steve? )posted a press release from MG-R communications. This scrumptious little morsel confirms my assertion that the "R60" concept "will" be revealed next tuesday,(Hopefully, to the accompaniment of the Movie theme from.. "The Vikings" or.. "The Longships")But goes one better than my guesswork!!..The exact time: 9.15am. I don't know if this is g.m.t. or not! (isn't the U.K. 1hr behind Europe? ) Anyway, remember-"NEXT TUESDAY" 9.15am: GENTLEMEN(and LADIES)START THOSE PRINTERS!! Okay! Cue: the "Marauding Viking" imagery 'cause were about to venture into the halls of "VALHALA" (hey!,and we're still alive! lucky us. "Come my heroic friends,...come, ... ODIN... AWAITS YOU"! )
Hmmmm..Norse imagery...B*W ain't...gonna... like that!!!

I was under the impression Geneva would see the unveiling of the actual signed off R60 project AS WELL AS the concept car that shows hints of all the various styling cues, design ideas etc. that the design and engineering team have been floating around. eg. it could even be a soft-roader MPV with 4 wheel drive and a 500hp V8 (too put all the rumours together into one car).

This is my interpretation of the MGR media release anyway. We'll see one complete R45 replacement to satisfy that side of things as well as a typical show car to get teh rumour mill going again and to show that MGR are an ideas company. Very much the "here's what we will be selling in 2 years" and "here's an idea of what we're thinking of selling in 4 years"

Heard a whisper that the China Brilliance deal could well be signed off at Geneva...!

Here's hoping!

OOh! how Exciting. I was hoping Rover were going to do something with the Viking theme, as the SD1 used a skeletal badge if memory serves, which was considered to be quite "cutting edge" at the time. i also hear that this new prototype it is meant to combine practicality with luxury.
It's funny, Rover have been out of the mainstream press for a few weeks now, and you just knew there was something bottling up. It seems that even most of Rovers own staff don't know much about the concept car!

I understand the the other car shown at Geneva is the "art car", a picture of which I have put in the other topic link - which is, I believe, a prequel to the Monogram program, with flipping paintwork, and different personalisation techniques available.
I hope Rover post the concept car on their site with feedback, like the X80. It would be nice to see how they address any issues with the car.

The only problem I forsee with this particular scenario is:.. That it would be akin to dragging a reluctant best friend to your house, hoping he would date your very pretty but socially challenged "Kid sister". however, When you get him there,....sitting next to her on the couch is an "EVEN MORE" beautiful older sister; who also happens to be a... Umm!..Er!..... "SUPERMODEL"!!. Although the younger sister is very cute and desirable, "Ms.Runway model( even though,.. she is "completly" unattainable! ) is going to be Hmmmmm!.. too much of a distraction!! Do you see my point? ...Even though,.. I admit,... I could be full of *****!,'cause "this" is just idle speculation on my part!! (Although, MG-R have not been adhering to conventional automotive wisdoms since the split with B*W)

P.S. It could work though, if the "concept" has "substantialy different architecture" but with R60 themes, as well as some proposed "future-think". And is merely shown to gauge the punters interest in these ideas!!... (P.P.S. I hope you are correct,.. because personally I can't get enough of MG-R developments)

:) :) :) Steve, the badge you refer to was supposed to be a "sleek simplified graphic of the traditional "shield" Reduced to it's "key themes", and to tie it into the the semi-industrial tone of the interior!!(I also heard it was a cost cutting measure. I prefer the first explanation!

Personally, I feel it would be a great idea to update this "Graphic representation" badge for any... potential.. "sports models that Rover "may" produce down the road( The Sports models would be "Minus" the grill, Thank You very much!! Just as Mercedes has a seperate treatment for their "GET UP AND GO" cars) CUE: THE SMOKE PLEASE.....The NEW Millennial SD1!!

:D :D :D Hey! Eddie, I hope it doesn't look like the Autocar/Whatcar? pictures that they keep publishing!...With it's "OVERSIZED" [Right idea but....Wayyyyyy...Tooo..Big! ] R0VER 90 (P4) grill and "BUG-EYES" it looked like something you'd see skimming "plankton" off the coast of "Tierra Del Fuego" that you took pictures of on a cruise to Antartica!!

Does the R60 look anything like the 75? Does it look like it could beat the ****** out of a 3-SERIES? I cant wait for the 5th! I realy hope its not bug-eyed, but has 4 lights like the 75.

I'm guessing that the lights will adopt the teardrop prjector lamp arrangement, as per the new TF. If so, I can see myself being a lottle disappointed, as I think they can be characterless and look a bit "mass-produced". Hopefully, I will be proved wrong.
I was under the impression that the car they were to unveil would be a "test-bed" of potential design elements which we would see in future models, and not the finished artical of the RX60.
Someone has got to get pictures, though. Does anyone know if the Geneva show is going to be on TV at all. I have a feeling Pulling Power might do something on ITV, as they usually like their Motor Show Specials.

:) :) :) Hey! Steve, "Edgie" said that he has seen the concept R60 at Longbridge!! (I don't know if he saw pictures or the actual car? )Anyway, his response "after he laid eyes on it was... "WOW!". Somehow..I don't see him exclaiming... WOW!, at the sight of Projector headlights, and a car shaped like a SEAT LEON (although, I think the headlights "look great" on the Brilliant MG TF)so, I think we can safely assume that the car is pretty dazzling....headlights...and all!!

And...it needs to be because.... "SAFE AND INNOCUOUS" isn't going to cut it anymore. John Towers and "all at MG-R" know that "right now" ROVER can't be "all things to all people", the company is simply too small for that. But far from this being a drawback, I believe that this is their "Ace in the hole". As they do not have to appeal to "EVERYMAN", Rover designs can be much BOLDER and MORE EDGY than the opposition's ( "Not", I fear like Renault's Avanttime and Vel Satis. These are incredibly bold and Individual efforts, but outside of France, they are too bizzare and quirky [read that as:"GOOFY"]and therefore; I feel that they are,...COMMERCIAL....SU..I..CIDE!)

Rover needs to have designs that are "breathtakingly beautiful",(Rover 75)or "Butch and Handsome" [like the "new Range Rover"] and...well..."different", Just like the SD1 was in "it's" day. IMAGINE: A large "5 door" hatchback, looking so much like a fastback coupe, that people don't notice the rear doors until they are pointed out to them!. It would be a car as "Ache-ingly Beautiful as any Ferrari" but, with "Onroad-4wd" a "supercharged V8", (Tuned for refinement:After all it's an executive express, but it's still a "tad" sporty) and with an unbelievably Opulent interior dripping with class; that is.... ABSOLUTELY: "TO DIE FOR" (Again, "like" the new Range Rover!! )

"I CANNOT BELIEVE" that I am the only one that this car sounds "mouth-wateringly"-"finger-licking-good" too! That's why I keep mentioning it, in the hopes that....Peter Stevens and MG-R will read this line of thought and say: "HEY! NOT A BAD IDEA, LET'S BUILD IT!". And who builds a "TASTY" vehicle such as this? no one that I can think of. (HEY! IT'S A NICHE, IT'S ROVER'S NICHE!! ) and if ROVER doesn't build it, I'm afraid that.....VW/AU*I WILL!!

P.S. I think the concept at Geneva could be very close to my description.(possibly a little smaller) "Edgie" would know, perhaps he could give us a clue? (Just a hint!, you don't have to reveal too much!! )
