Hi all, just noticed today the base of the turbo is well covered in oil, plus it has dripped upon the drive shaft which is also oily. I had the turbo replaced six months ago with a new one, advertised here in this forum. Turbo is working perfectly , no nasty noise or black smoke, just this oil leak. Removed the intake pipe, the one from the air filtre and there was oil in it. I suspect oil is coming from the thinner pipe, coming from the engine top and entering the thick intake pipe or I may be wrong. Is that serious? Anything I could do?
It's not usually something to panic about, most if not all of us find our turbos covered in a bit of oil over time, but it shouldn't be flooding out, or leave drips on your drive imo.
Might be worth getting under (if you can) and having a look to see where the source is. A bit of oil coming from the pipe you mentioned is normal, so if its just seeping out from where the hoses meets the turbo then it isn't ought to get worried at, but at the same time you might want to check it's not coming from a minor leak in either the oil feed or drain so it's worth looking.
Thank you for your answer! How about if oil is coming from top of engine, there is a rubber hose coming out of the engine top, entering the intake turbo pipe. When I disconnected that hose from the engine, there was a lot of oil on the inner side of the hose and it is dripping down onto the turbo itself. Is this normal or is it a bad sign for the engine?
the pipework you mention is the breather system from the top of the engine.
if you have tuned this it will breath 'harder' but there would be some oil coming through on an OE system.
When you say drips how much is actually coming out, as i had a leak from the top of the brether that looked like it had covered the engine - in fact it was only a tiny drop of oil, but it just gets every-wher as it is very hot a that point and spreads like no business!
a quick spray with brake cleaner was all it took to remove the thin film that had coated everything!
Edit:
You could fit a catch tank to record the oil usuage if you wanted - needs to be a decent setup with seperate ports and a baffle inside; however if you car is not using oil at a particualrly fast rate, then i would not worry about it too much...
It isn't using much oil, I only thought it wasn't normal to have so much oil on
the turbo housing. What also worried me was oil escaping through the breather. Anyway, I'll keep an eye, thanks again!

Thats my 600. Some oil is "normal" If it is dripping on the floor regularly then that isn't normal.
