ok , how do I get it out .
the radio / cd player is an MG Rover one fitted about 5 years ago into an R reg MGF. it has a flip front and when switched on the MG logo automatically scrolls across the display.
any advice welcomed
Unsure on what headunit you actually have.
HOWEVER.. alot of headunits that have problems ejecting can be fixed simply by disconnecting the power then reconnecting after a few secs. You may need to enter a code after reconnecting but this depends on the stereo.
If the CD is physically jammed in then this wont help at all and may the force be with you!
Probably no help to you but cd rom drives have a small hole for stuck discs so you can force eject. If you have one on your player push a paper clip in and it may pop the cd out.

Is it the stereo that flips down and has a eject button on the reverse side of the flip down section?

If all else fails, I'd just remove the CD player, open up the metal casing, to see what the obstruction is.
I've seen CD players swallowing two CDs. When opened up, you're able to
gently assist the removal of the CD, either manually or when applying power and pressing eject button. Yep, there's always the risk of causing
damage doing this but in its present condition the HU is pretty useless.

Before disconnecting the power check you have the radio code, if not we do!

Hey, if you don't have the radio code - try to open the lid without disconnecting the power, by extending the radio harness. (Sometimes posible)
After all, the reason why the CD is stuck could well be due to a faulty CD mechanism - and who would want to pay for a code for a HU that may be
uneconomically viable to repair at the end of the day.....
Just a thought, unless you check to see if you can get a free code first.

That is what i'd have suggested.
On my headunit, you have to remove the front facia to get to this little hole (pops on and off as a 'security' feature...) anyway, after that all you need is a paperclip or a precision screwdriver. It will manually operate the eject mechanism and the cd should slide out as normal.
