Hi folks
First post so be gentle!
I bought an old Rover 214 si for my first car a few weeks ago and I'm have some problems with it.
Problem 1
The first issue is that the car is chugging a lot in second gear (when she is feeling temperamental she does it in all gears!) and the only way to solve it is to either give it a lot of gas or to put the clutch down.
Problem 2
When the engine is idle the revs are sitting up at 2000rpm and I can't get them to come down. If I restart the engine it seems to resolve this.
My amateur attempts to fix it:
I've replaced the air filter and fuel filter. I also found that there was a missing part from the ventilation to the air filter so I picked up a replacement part from a scrap yard and fitted it. I've checked the HT leads and they appear in good condition. I also changed one of the spark plugs that was faulty.
I’m at a loss at to what else it could be. Is this a common problem in this model and is there something else I should be looking at?
Any help appreciated.
