I know its a not the best thing to do, But I did it, was running low on fuel, and the fuel warning light popped on.. faint, .. went off....still driving....came on faint....went off, still got far to go....again the lamps on, bit brighter...you know the score!!

After 15 miles, I gave in and got fuel, just wondering how far you can push it at first fuel low glow??? If anyones had to..or had the nerve?

Cheers

Bloody good for diesels then! Admirable! If only they made them less rattelley I might get one! Mines just petrol though!

More poke and more economical than most of the petrol range. :p

On the Rover 45 there is about 7 litres of fuel left when the light comes on (I would expect most of the models to be similar), so about 1.5 gallons roughly. At 35mpg it would give about 50 miles to empty.

The light should be coming on and off at around 8 to 9 litres left, I've gone 38 miles before throwing in the towel on the motorway at 56mph and the light was on solid, town driving I would of filled up around 20 miles.

I assume all Rover tanks are 65l (14.3 galls)
Most I've put in mine (618i) was earlier this year.. 58l (about £76) - light had been on 30+ miles. So still over 1 gall left. I've never ran out in this Rover, 15 yrs driving. I tend to fill up empty to full (ie £65 fills) circa 400 miles (press trip as fill up to brim)
= 32mpg ish.. (Mine must come on around 11 litres left)

I'm assuming diesels can/could 'top' 600 miles per tank ? (43 mpg?)

600 tanks are 65l
400 tanks are 50l
200 tanks are 50l too I think.

Diesels "can" average 50mpg so in theory could do over 700 miles.

550 miles was more usual for mine though till I get too chicken and fill up.

slightly different question on this thread.
when the warning lamp comes on faint which ive done loads of times due to being very poor, does the light come brighter as more empty as you seem to suggest.
i know its not good to run this low but sometimes it happens.
how does this light work?

Yes it starts off dim, then gets brighter till it is on fully

I've had my 620ti 1mm into the black below the red.

When the light stays on all the time I fill up. Or if I drive past a cheap shell garage.
