Hi there again :(

I seem to have developed a huge oil leak from the block/head front bottom right corner.

Its had a fully rebuilt head, new head gasket (multi layer) & head bolts. This was after a overheating issue, so i just replaced everything apart from bottom end.

I Haven't even managed to run the car out of drive way yet as the oil is pouring out fast.

I know it is a common place for a slight weep, but this is just to much. Dont think it would make it 5 miles to do its MOT (With out runing out of oil lol)

Is they anything someone knows about this? something i may have done wrong maybe?

Did you remove the oil restrictor from the head
What gasket did you use?

I had this once but as the engine ran up to temperature the leak sealed (well it still has a small weep but then most do). I didn't believe it but it changed from a torrant to a few drips to nothing as the engine warmed up.

If the engine hasn't gone through a heating cycle yet I'd check the head bolt torque and let it warm up properly. you've nothing to loose so long as you don't lose all the oil.

Hey mate thanks for reply.

I didn't remove the oil restrictor. Is that a big problem? It did have a multi layer gasket on it already, i used this head gasket set here,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310117871128?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1177wt_1064

Yea when it gets warm it does slow down, but it gushes loads out before that though, it leaves a nice puddle on floor lol

I used these head bolts here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310117855868?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_922

Tightened with degree dial & torque wrench to the correct NM & degrees, in right order that is. I mite just give them another 10 or 20 nm.

Shame cos it didn't leak nothing before. If its not a huge issue then i best give it a good run :)

Thanks keith

Have you used the correct torque setting as there's two different ones depending on what head bolts are used (I can't remember what they are though).

The HG, was it the pattern part in the listing, or did you get the Klinger mentioned as also available in the listing ?

Presumably the head was skimmed as well ?

Oops, Nope i should of got the klinger one. i used an after-market one :(

Yea i checked on my old head bolts for the torque settings. Head was rebuilt from scratch, valves, seats, guides, etc all new

Think i will get a klinger one if it don't stop.

That will teach me to read things properly!!

They all weep from that corner, mine does slightly, if its a waterfall as such I think it worth repairing first.

Does the oil level on the dip stick drop rapidly.

I guess the surfaces where clean when the head was refitted and the head checked for straightneed.

Good to see the nice exhuast manifold bolts :D I got the same ones on my 620ti.

Hey Martin,

Its has turned into a waterfall i would say, didn't leak at all, then slowly got worse every time i started it, haven't even got out my drive way lol.

The head was done by a company in Birmingham, FER approved. it was skimmed and completely rebuilt, pressure tested etc.

Engine block was is in good nick, no pitting around water ways and came up nice with some elbow grease :)

Going to give it a run and if it don't seal, i will get a proper klinger gasket & check that oil restrictor E.T.V mentioned

Yep! my old vittese's manifold used to blow no end, so these are a must.
Alan key studs too, can't beat it!

Heres the head before i put it together http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=439690

Cheers Keith

Not saying the pattern gasket is bad, I was just wondering.

Found what I was looking for about the head bolts, there's two types with different torque settings:

If head bolts have MSPS written on the top
1)45 NM
2)80 NM
3)90 Degrees

If head bolts have KX written on the top
1)45 NM
2)70 NM
3)90 Degrees

Head bolt tightning sequence

CAM PULLY END (9) (3) (1) (5) (7)
CAM PULLY END (8) (6) (2) (4) (10)

Having said that as I understand it the MSPS ones are no longer available

My old ones were KX, The ones i got new did'nt have anythink stamped on them so i assume they would be the same as my old ones?

I think so.

From what I remember reading the MSPS were first used on the M series and carried onto to the early T series.

Munnsy, all the very best. Never rains etc .. Did you check for any block warp ?. (or just clean up)

Cheers Devon, if it ant one thing its another haha.

Yea checked the block and all was well. Seems to be isolated on that corner where the oil way is. There's no other leaks or oil getting into the pistons & water is good :)

Just got an intercooler to fit, then i can run it proberly and see if it seals (hopefully)
