: Anyone want a laugh?
well 4car has the new ford focus for 2005, and well it looks, you can decide,
http://www.4car.co.uk
and there is a image looking down at the car, is it me or does it remind you of a rover 25 even though it looks nothing like it?
(its probaly just me with drunkeness)
Looks ok, but not outstanding.
If the Mazda 3 chassis is anything to go by (they share it) then it will be a disappointing drive.
Mike12345 27-08-2004, 19:38 Eh!?
Its fine to me!
My god! How did they do it...? How did they possibly make the F:***: Ass uglier...? :wtf:
I personally think it looks okay, a cross between a Seat Leon and a Focus C-MAX.
The interior is where it scores a direct hit - I think it looks really good. The Sony Stereo's are absolutely fantastic - it is a shame that MG Rover can't sort themselves out a similar deal. Some of the units they used to use in the MG's - Kenwood's - were particularly nasty.
metroman 27-08-2004, 20:42 How refreshing the original Focus was when it came out and how bloody dull this new one is. You would have thought a company like Ford would have worked out how not to produce dull designs by now. Bring back the Anglia 105E, I say!
king arthur 27-08-2004, 22:01 All those who say the k-series is too old and needs replacing, should take a look at those figures. 74bhp from the 1.4 and 99bhp from the 1.6.
Yep - just goes to show doesn't it.
Also the 1.4 16v engine is the same unit as in the Fiesta. In that application, it is pretty noisy and vocal.
IMO - the best Fiesta engine is the 1.25 Yamaha engine. It would be the 1.4 TDCi engine had Ford bothered to offer the uprated 92bhp version that is available in the Citroen C3.
smosquito 27-08-2004, 22:50 Wow... The new focus is really BORING!
I liked the old one...
Well, that's okay. MGR can take over this segment with RD60
Steve McF 27-08-2004, 23:00 Side profile is quite crap for both the 3 door and 5 door.
Fairly dull otherwise.........
king arthur 27-08-2004, 23:01 Perhaps history will repeat itself. In 1990 Ford replaced the successful mk4 Escort with the terribly dull mk5, whilst Rover had already introduced the 200, and would-be Escort owners turned to the classier alternative in droves.

Indeed if MGR get the RD60 right they could wipe the floor with it, i liked the old Focus but this new one is kak. Ford also seem to be carrying on the tradition of crap engines in the smaller engine sizes.
as i would say with MGR you really need to see it in the flesh to judge it
i think it looks ok
it does have a bit of a 25/zr look about it
Street Boy 28-08-2004, 09:11 the astra ****** all over this
Looks like they just streched it, I dont like the look of it, but I dont like the current focus either, on the plus side, the interor looks better with the seats looking better, and doesn't look like it will "kite" so much as the old one. Also looks like it will be a closer size to the 45/ZS Hatchback (as in it looks bigger then the old one)
Also to add, if this is what Ford are bringing out in this class, then MGR would have got away with the Roverised Gen2 (Even though that probably wont happen now)
Tom™220Turbo 28-08-2004, 13:55 the fron isn't too bad... but the rear looks absolute cack

and the side... eeek
david_r_bates 28-08-2004, 20:57 I dont go for Fords, but I find it very depressing the way they're replacing models that were at least distinctive with ones that, quite simply, are derivative and dull.
The new Ka is an even better example. What on earth are they playing at?
There's some modern design touches in places, but is it just me that thinks it looks a bit ungainly?
The current model still looks fine IMO, this is just change for changes sake not for the better.

I was reading an car enthusiats guide book from 1965 and it was amazing just how little things have changed engine power wise. There was quite a number of engines (in particuler small capacity italian engines) that gave some amazing BHP figures.
i thought it was against the law to make a car uglier than it already is lmao
Randyjim 31-08-2004, 21:21 When you first click the link, the pic that comes up (blue one) from the rear 3 quarters is actually of a Citroen Picasso. Or so it looks to me.
Pig Ugly.
red_rover 01-09-2004, 20:38 Hmm, I really like the 3 door in that lovely shade of blue, and the Interior is much better than the focus mk1 interior.
andrewuk 01-09-2004, 22:36 Hmm I quite like it. A bit SEAT leon-ish in its 5 door guise. Don't like the 3 door, but then I've never been a fan of 3 door cars!
Whoever designed or approved that Focus should be tried to the densest object in the world and thrown in the sea. Utter disgrace, that design bought onto the original Focus (mk1)!
The new Focus looks like the Seat Leon at the back, a R25 mid section and a Vauxhall Vectra front end....and it's as dull as dishwater, but I don't see it being a bad seller...I imagine there's plenty of people queueing up to buy it anyway...no matter how crap it looks!
STEVEN_NORFIELD 03-09-2004, 07:10 Odd, the four door looks absolutely hideous, the three door, hmm, i cant decide. Looking at the images the french blue 3 door looks gorgeous, the pale blue one looks a bit average. I'd hae the french blue one, looks like a 3 door Leon (No bad thing at all IMO).
When Ford poached J-Mays away from VW as their head of styling I thought their original design approach would disappear as fast as it arrived. This is yet another car that proves. To be honest I don't think it's bad looking, just rather unadventurous after the original Focus.
PHIL_R25 08-09-2004, 21:55 A complete dog's breakfast - looks like a squashed c-max! I'd rather have a used 1st gen focus than one of these. :shake:
Interior looks better though, but reminds me of the Pug 307.
We were parked across the road from a Ford showroom in my local town tonight. Quite a large showroom too. I was actally saying to my girlfriend about how totally dull all those cars look when placed together.
She drives a new-shape Fiesta and I have to say I like it, but when you put the whole Ford range together they all either look the same or are as dull as hell.
Except the Mustang, but they've not got the balls to make it a world car and sell it over here. Preferring to waste money on the GT40 instead.
AnthonyG 15-09-2004, 16:07 Looks like Ford will be doing the laughing, cos it wiped the floor with the Golf, Astra and BMW 1 series in this week's Autocar!
