As your intrepid "other makes" reporter - I've just returned from a hellish day or two with our London cousins at the "Best of British" car show. OH MY GOD. Awful. I feel like the Kate Adie of Motorsport. It was like being in Beiruit.
The Club GTI contingent put on a smart and subtle show of, easily, the best cars on the airstrip at Brooklands nr Byfleet incl the stunning bright blue metallic beast of mine! The barby was also "Best in Show" As for the rag-tag bunch of 17yr old's in Citroens and Fiestas trying to kill each other - nuff said!
It was really a bit thrown together and far too expensive at £5 a throw for nothing more than a big car park strewn with used tyres.
Due to "council reservations on noise levels" - the burn-out and doughnut competitions were cancelled. THANK GOD!
This didn't, however, stop certain members of the McDonalds Drive-Thru fraternity attempting the aforementioned "stunts"
Some nice motors there and the Ford RS Owners had some decent cars (in terms of standard of presentation!) and the Bournemouth Cruisers easily had the most expensive and most tasteless BMW's on earth. Z3-M in flip paint with Halfords-esque spoiler bolted on the back and a NOS tank the size of a fire extinguisher bolted between the leather seats. Hmmmm.
There was a display of Rovers from, I think, Rover Owners Club. Quite a few 600's and 800's but not much, if any, MG-R stuff and no 200's I think.
Next report due from the VW-Audi Track Day at Castle Coombe - Oct 12th. Dr Dave will also be there, if he remembers, but won't be going "track-side" as he still has nightmares of his early exit on the chicane many moons ago!
