Read the comments underneath.

"prince was shown the diesel engine MG posted the pics on Facebook then realised they'd cocked up and had to remove them"

Classic :)

Welcome back BL all is forgiven :)

I think Prince Andrew gets a hard time. At least he tries to promote British products abroad instead of running them down like many of his fellow countrymen. OK he has the odd helicopter ride but I'm certain he's made up for that 100x with sales of goods he's oiled the wheel of.

Let's not forget he also served as a Sea King co-pilot during the Falklands War, which is much more then most of us can say.

They used Sea Kings in the Falklands? Didn't know there were astronauts splashing down  (though let's face it, there never was a Falklands war, it was a conflict or kerfuffle)

Which is why to say "Falklands war" is formally incorrect.

war1    [wawr] Show IPA noun, verb, warred, war·ring, adjective
noun
1.
a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air.
2.
a state or period of armed hostility or active military operations: The two nations were at war with each other.
3.
a contest carried on by force of arms, as in a series of battles or campaigns: the War of 1812.
4.
active hostility or contention; conflict; contest: a war of words.

so,hardly revisionism...just a different view held by yourself and others which is technically incorrect....just because war was never officially declared by either party, the acts that took place can be defined as'war'.

anything else is splitting hairs for the sake of it...

Merry Xmas :candle:I am so ashamed.

Let's face it, we can't just change history to suit our own agenda. To believe we can is either innocence or ignorance. Arguing about it? well...

Didn't this start with something to do with an MG?

I'm sure the families of the service men who died during the 'war' considered it as such.

I always thought it was a wag the dog exercise to get the thatcher government re elected ;)

Whether it was officially a war or not should have no bearing on people's views towards the military personnel who risked their lives for the UK and the people of the Falklands.

True.

Back on topic, is the front of that red Magnette the same as on all MG6's? It somehow looks a little meaner and beefier in that photo to me.

In house design or just a devlopment of the L/G series? Loved my old L series.

Will be a new design. The L series lives on in India as G series.

Pity they couldnt have got a licence to use the engine over here.

I bet once the Longbridge lads had got their hands on it with the 16v head it would match or better the new 2.0 TDi VAG unit as the L series did when the old 1.9TDi unit was only making 90hp.

Definitely, although from my understanding, there were ownership issues with the G-Series, which is why they went the route of doing their own. Wonder if any of the G-Series team is with SAIC now?
