lol, there I am in the background!

It sounds fantastic too, got a video to upload when I get back.

They've currently only got 1 car 'done', but its not ready to be out in the test session this afternoon, so the first run it will get is at the first BTCC race @ Brands.

Jason seemed pretty chuffed with it though, smiling when he got out of the car.

look great, but why is it a left hooker?

Still looks bland! How do you achieve a level of blandness even btcc'ing it up doesn't help!!

I like it, it looks the part, tho i won't think thats the final spec front bumper/splitter! looks like an interim to get in ready for the media day

There ain't nothing and I mean NOTHING bland about that! Looks seriously good to me-reckon on this forum, there are some "glass half full people", some "glass half empty people" and there are some whose "glass is broke and the liquid all over the floor" :)! That car looks every bit as I knew 888 would make it and I look forward to it's first proper outing-come on Jason, I've put me tenner on :)!

See, one minute you say it looks bland, the next you say its vile, ugly, horrid. I dont think it can be both, a bland car is just that, bland. As in doesnt evoke strong reaction. Make your mind up :dddc:

I think it looks pretty mean in BTCC trim, very nice :broon:

Id also like to know why its a left hooker though, perhaps they are taking it racing in europe as well?

It looks bloody fantastic, I want one!

John
19-03-2012, 15:11
In standard form it's vile, in btcc form it's a jelly mould with a funky rear wing. Any aggression at all would have been nice :s

But as long as Jason likes it that's all that matters I suppose

Looks to have plenty to me, certainly much more than the other cars in that picture.

Getting so tired of saying it but styling really is subjective....

What on earth are you looking at?! That looks like an absolute animal. Make me a road-going version without the decals and i'd bite your hands off.

looks genuinely fantastic....as an aside,i visited the new mg dealer at stoke the other day and the 6 looks better each time i see it in the flesh, very nice in white indeed.

needs front and rear bumpers squaring up and brining more level to the drop of the skirts (especially the rear as its about a foot too high still) then stick number plates on it and as long as its got a decent engine behind it it'll sell by the bucket load.

I'll take the supercharged v8 version please

Just goes to show that MG designed them properly in the first place dunnit :dddc:

Maybe it is because the standard bumper is so aerodynamic that it does not need changing, BTCC is about winning by being fast not winning the beauty competition.

No it just shows that 888 didn't have the time to finish. Which given there very very short time scale is more likely

Never mind

I think you are probably right and this is not the final race spec bumper/splitter.

However, i dont think there is anything wrong with how it looks either.

I've been pinning my hopes on it to see an agressive mg, but was pretty gutted to see this, I want to like this car, but just can't (yet)

I quite like the wings though

Just proves how its all in the eye of the beholder. I think the 6 is really aggressive.

some nice new pics on BTCC Facebook page of the car "in action", nice to see BTCC page has more shots of the MG6 than any other car.

Would be interesting to know why it is left hand drive though! When all the others appear to be RHD.

But I think it is looking good.

Rally cars are often LHD.

fredthefred
19-03-2012, 19:37
Usually they're lhd to balance the car laterally (engine weight is right side biased).

SteveChilds
19-03-2012, 20:26
Yeah, its nothing new that they're LHD to be honest, I've seen other racing cars that are also LHD - I think the ZS' were?

They could have also donated two Chinese MG6s as the bodyshells, after all they would have served their purpose at LB and could well have been surplus. Mechanically they're the same as the UK car as far as the needs for the BTCC go anyway.

And John - sorry you're on your own on this one. The BTCC car looks superb and going by the reaction of the media, it went down very well too. I didn't hear one negative comment about the car at all & we all know how negative the media can be if they want to be.

I also liked it how Jason positioned the car directly behind the camera cars on the couple of laps they did around the track behind them - nice one Jason!

Sadly they didn't run in the test session, so I've got no shots of them running on track (other than going past on the straight). I have got rather a lot of photos to go through though, which I'll upload into a BTCC gallery in a while.

They need to get this body kit on the general car and make a hot version....yesterday :D

Not my cup of tea at the momment the NGTC MG6, it looks more like a production class car with the lack of aero and I don't know where to start with that livery.

However 888 have had less than half the time to put the car together than say the new Honda/Dynamics Civic so I'll give them a pass for now.

LHD/RHD in a touring car can be more down to driver preference than weight distribution, take a clockwise circuit which is mostly right hand corners you'd get a better view of the apex in a RHD car.

I have to say I am most surprised that the question of LHD/RHD should be considered relevant.

In the DTM (which I know is different regs) all cars are LHD as are all the WRC cars I can recall.

Not sure it is relevant Pat, but I did wonder why it was LHD rather than RHD like the other cars, but then again I know next to nowt about car racing you see. So for anyone who doesn't really know or has ever noticed before you can see how odd it looks.

In simple terms RHD=British LHD=Foreign but nothing is ever that simple.

On a related note last years BTCC Arena Ford's were RHD, now they are in the WTCC they are now LHD.

Had a great day at Silverstone but missed out on seeing the MG6. They were just packing up as I was arriving!
Met a couple of nice chaps who run the AROnline setup aswell.

Heres a few snaps.... note the reliable Honda!

What do you mean - you mean manufacturers?

In that case, yes there are only two - MG and Honda. Vauxhall pulled out a few years back.

Yup, its the TOCA supplied NGTC Turbo engine. I believe a few of the NGTC teams are using it.

It didn't wasn't ready to test, only did the camera car laps then returned to pit lane
