Just joined after a little look around.

Just bought a 2.5 V6 75 tourer and wanted to just check that it all ok and if there's anything I need to do. It's a 2004 on a 53, SE spec, mint condition with a full service history.

The only this that's worrying me a little is that the cam belt doesn't seem to have been done - it was advised at the 86,000 mile service and has now done just over 100,000. A lot of the threads on here are suggesting that it's not worth doing and more so that it's very very unlikely to go, but obviously want to make sure!

If I should be having it done, are the mentions of £5 - 600 true or are there places that can do it for less? I love the car, so would be nice to make sure it lasts.

Finally, anything else I need to check and look for as it's new to me?

Many thanks

Hello and welcome to the world of 75's/ZT's.

Ah, the eternal belt dilemma. The short answer is that yours are overdue-there are three; oen long one at the 'front' of the engine and two small ones at the 'rear' of each bank to tie the inlet and exhaust cams together. General opinion is that it's the rear ones that go slack and fail first becuase they have no tensioner.

The 5-600 cost you've stated is the 'cheaper' prise, a delaer quoted me £852. Yes, really. The cost of the parts alone just for a full and proper belts chnage is around 180-200 but then you need to factor in the sense it makes to change the water pump and thermostat at teh same time while you're in there with it all stripped down. The price you've seen 'may' include these extras.

Ultimately, it's your choice. You could motor on for another two or three years with no drama. or they could fail tomorrow - who knows. If they were to fail then you're looking at a new engine which will cost around the same as a belts change...
