: HGF is nothing new to MG

Have a look at this then, my XPAG engine was rebuilt 4 years ago but I have only done 500Kms with it and I have found this today when I was checking the engine due to bad smoking....

Wow thats a pretty overheated Gasket there! major warpage!

I think there is a misocnception or an expectation that a HGF is likely to occur at a certain mileage! but can infact happen anytime at all!
too much is made of HGF and many panic unnecassarily.

so true the hg its very cheap to fix compared to other cars eg a 1992 mazda 323 exec that we did last week came with parts and labour of 536 quid whereas the zr 160 one we did last month came in at 382 thats with cam belt, water pump and inlet mani gasket inc labour

Ah, but that's because the MG/Rover ones go so often that more parts are made and economies of scale pull the price down.
