Formerly Llannelli Pressings, This plant was once part of the huge BL owned supply chain in South Wales.
For anyone who worries about our future being dictated by Germany, rest assured it's already happening!

i think this web site needs to stop worrying about foreign control. BL and BMC flopped because they got complaicent with a market place (ie the UK) who would lap up off the sub-standard products, then the "foreigners" moved in. But people forget that even if it were a british company in control factories it would still close/relocate some units to move with the economy and cut costs. i think people forget the good johny foreigner does for us with japanese and german investment in r n d and manufacturing going into the billions and sometimes youve got to lose jobs too save many more.

I'd be more worried about American owned 'British' companies.
The Americans have the cash to buy up our companies, but unfortunatlely no brains or management ability to run them..... :iwstupid:

The German directors (yep they are German) had to decided between a German plant and the Welsh plant.
The thought of losing German jobs is completly un-heard of now. If the closure is between a British plant or a German plant - companies always choose the British plant :***:
And guess what, more Brits go out and buy more German stuff.
I'm going to stop now - because I think I'm sounding a bit anti-German :boxedin:
...the closure is between a British plant or a German plant
Source? How do you know that?
They have several plants in Germany, France, UK, Spain... so which plant in Germany are you exactly talking about?

What a pile of drivel this thread is! Stop whining about the Germans, Americans, Chinese or anyone else. Figure out how to do better than them and then do it.
No-one owes anyone in Britain (or anywhere else) a living - if you can't do better than the other guys then jobs should be lost to where they can do it better.
The main reason that the UK no longer has a huge locally owned industry is that a combination of incompetent management and complacent employees worked hard for many years to give consumers a reason to buy elsewhere.
There are many foreign owned companies doing well in the UK and hopefully MG-R will soon be able to compete head to head with them- and beat them! :guns:
