: So, the MG3.......
snifferdog1 19-05-2012, 09:01 ....what is the official word on the UK version? Im keeping a very keen eye on the 3,5 and the 6 as I am in a position to buy a new car whenever I want to now.
What pics are available of the 3 in a UK setting, I know the UK version isnt finalised but what have we got to go on so far?
What about engines? Facts and rumours?!!
Basically, Im hoping it looks aggressive enough. Im not expecting another zed range but I hope it goes in that direction.
It certainly looks good and gets a pretty good, pre production write up here -

If not, the new Mazda range has got me quite interested.
Roverlike 19-05-2012, 09:12 I have to say that on first look on MG3 (on pictures, havn't see it in live) it seems to me that MG 3 is significantly smaller than MG ZR? I might be wrong, of course, but this is my impression.

On recent tour of Longbridge, I saw 3 MG3's & talking to an engineer in the Tec Center he indicated, that the 3 for the UK & Europe would be more sportingly styled than the China offerings with a restyled front and rear with bigger wheeels.
I think it is smaller than a ZR
guinnesstj 19-05-2012, 11:17 The review was quite good, constructive critism for a car we won't be buying in that spec. The 3 is the one i'm most looking forward too
GazSuttonUK 19-05-2012, 11:51 At 'Pride of Longbridge' we were given a private look at the MG3 they have that is being tested...I have been given permission to show these photos by Ian Pogson and MGUK...

Forrestt 19-05-2012, 13:18 Could have cleaned it first.....
SteveChilds 19-05-2012, 16:07 To be fair, I doubt the UK version will look anything like the above (more or less), otherwise you wouldn't have been let within 100m of it with a camera.
Its basically going to look roughly like it as its obviously the same panel work, but we won't know exactly how its going to look, inside & out until its launched in the UK.
ROVER-25X 20-05-2012, 00:28 Its looking good so far, not a massive fan of the rear lights but they don't put me off, besides sounding like a broken record i'd want a 3rd lol.

I looked at the measurements of the new cars. The MG5 is bigger than the ZS but the MG3 is about the same size as the ZR to within a couple of cm IIRC.

These are intersting information. Is there any link to new car measurements, I would like to see more...
mattie007 20-05-2012, 21:28 I like the look of that, a natural successor to the ZR.

The boot looks like it could be smaller than a bubble

ROVER-25X 22-05-2012, 02:22 Where it lacks in lenght it makes up for in height by the looks of it bud. :broon:
The size of the MG3 is deceptive - it's exactly a similar length to the R3 ;)
snifferdog1 22-05-2012, 16:11 Anyone got interior pics or know where I can find them? Cheers.

these seem believable, and will not be the spec in the UK:

quite a few like this from googling:

It looks like it will certainly be bigger where it matters, the cabin. It looks about the size of the current Polo/Fiesta generation whihc is what it should be, and whilst the ZR was big at the time, it wouldn't be against the new breed of superminis these days.

Inside, the Tardis days of Mini, Metro, Maxi and Princess are gone due to crash protection - so the space e.g. behind the driver will be a key factor. I found the bubble 200 was far too small after a wedge 200. The seats play a key role in this. There is far more interior room in a Rover 45 than in an MG ZS.
It will be interesting to see.

I agree, my miniMetro has more interior space (or certainly feels like it) than my 2011 VW Fox (and thats pretty roomy in the class) Of course, I don't have to bend myself double to get into the Fox ;)

Cars are getting bigger all the time - compare a new Cinquecento to the 50s version of the new MINI to the original...

If this happens Roverman will need to be eating a big slice of humble pie :p
Having been in some current superminis at shows recently that MG3 interior won't cut it, quality needs to go up as does the design of the dial area... looks cheap and tacky as it stands.
If MG have any sense it will have the Zero styled front end on it (basically MG5 shrunk down)... amazing how close the Zero and 5 look from the front... even down to the centre bonnet line running into the badge the styling cues are all there so we live in hope...
ROVER-25X 28-05-2012, 00:08 If this happens Roverman will need to be eating a big slice of humble pie :p
Whys that ? :dunno:
Because every times the possibility of revised front / rear bumpers for any current SAIC product is mentioned he tells us with 100% certainty that it won't happen... we shall see...
ROVER-25X 29-05-2012, 01:12 Ah ok, i'll have a slice too. ;)
ZR DIMENSIONS
LENGTH --4010mm
WIDTH--- 1900mm
HEIGHT--- 1400mm
MG3 DIMENSIONS
LENGTH--3999mm
WIDTH-- 1725mm
HEIGHT--- 1517mm
from this piece hope it right
Popular MG3 body up and down the split shape, the shape is consistent with the appetite of young people, windows and dark A, B, column integration, quite demeanor of the British retro models, Swift, crystal sharp also adopted a similar design. Cool and dark tones together with the great contrast white decoration, and digital IT-based control panel, all this simply for the young tailor made. 2011 MG3 equipped with 1.3L and 1.5L displacement, two engines, respectively, both with manual and automatic transmission. Were 3999mm/1725mm/1517mm the MG3 body size dimensions, while the wheelbase is the 2520mm as an AO-level car, the price range of between 69 700 -10.37 million, relative to the same level models or extremely competitive.
hope this helps
Very similar to the ZR then, never been a fan of tall & narrow cars so will need some clever styling cues and lowering to give it a good stance I reckon...
ROVER-25X 31-05-2012, 03:13 Decent size like but its the norrowness of it, thats why I like my 25/200, plenty of elbow room.
lukenobrains 05-06-2012, 23:03 So it's tall and skinny... Will be like throwing a 1.1 saxo around on country roads then...
Also every single pic I have seen is a 5dr.... Are they not making a 3dr model? If it's the ZR replacement it needs to have the sporty 3dr image! I imagine it will look 100x better with a few doors missing...
Will still be tall and skinny though :/
snifferdog1 06-06-2012, 16:53 I think the current trend is for small hatchbacks to be taller/higher?! Well, judging by the Hyundai i10, Ford ka, Mazda 2, Skoda Fabia etc etc. They all look like they are quite tall, Ive not looked at the figures though.
As for width, it (MG3) isnt not much narrower than a ZR, not so that you would notice anyway.
lukenobrains 06-06-2012, 22:31 Not great handlers there apart from the Fabia VRS which is lower and looks fatter lol...

Answerd your own worrys, the Fabia VRS has near identical dimensions and as I said in the MG5 forum its a fast and good handling car.
Rover Lad 07-06-2012, 23:02 I have to say I hope it changes significantly before its release... I dont like it much at all :/
Looks like a Grande Punto thats had a clout and I HATE its wheels.
ROVER-25X 09-06-2012, 04:57 The Fiat Punto is a nice car mate, love the facelift.
