: MGF boot spoilers
Ok, I have managed to do a Jedi mind trick on the SO and she agrees that my car would benefit from the addition of a rear spoiler :cloud9:
question is, what one?
Trophy, F1, MGR, mad/extreme or others?
Please feel free to post any "unusual" ones you may have pictures of
(Of course I should get the front trophy fitted first shouldn't I)
IMO Trophy everytime, second to that is fitting the TF boot, that works really well too as shown here on Dunc's F (has quads to so a quick photoshop with the colour will give you a good idea what your's could look like)
Thanks! Nice ppics
i need a bit more spoiler than that though , sorry its a personal thing

Although I prefer the F1 spoiler, I remember reading that the aerodynamics are so good on a car wothout a spoiler that fitting one only makes matters worse due to the drag it causes - a case of form over function????
Bluesman 29-09-2004, 09:01 imo Tropy spoiler may have aerodynamic effect actually
David Mills 29-09-2004, 09:01 For an F the curved MGR one or the TF boot. It's more sympathetic to the shape and style of the car.
For the TF the trophy as the angles fit better with the altered shape.
The Trophy spoiler may have an aerodynamic effect but it will create drag, Does the aerodynamic effect outweigh the drag? - The huge Cossie spoliers on the Sierra and Escort had an aerodynamic effect over 120mph? but below that the drag created was immense and for normal driving conditions no spoiler was better than having one, hence they brought out a low spoiler option for the Escorts.
Scarlet Fever 29-09-2004, 10:06 I agree with David.
The F is too curvy for the Trophy spoiler - so the F-ONE wins it for me.
The Trophy spoiler, with it's angles, suits the TF really well.
Oh, and MS himself says that the F-ONE spoiler has no aerodynamic effect, it is purely a styling accessory, or at least this is how he sold my one to me in 1997 anyhow. :)
Cyer_ricki 29-09-2004, 11:37 me personaly im guna stick a mad spoiler on mine when i have the time ill grab a universal one and hope it fits!
Phil_b, Love those wheels on Dunc's F how the devil does that work??. Do you happen to know what zorst is on it as well?
I am going for a TF boot lid on my F and maybe a F1 spoiler as well.
I don't like the trophy boot spoiler as it has to many mounting points and looks like a ladder from the rear IMO
I think the TF boot on its own is nice but may go for the F1 as well - but a few people have said it will be to much - whats the general feeling on here ? It is going on a silver car as well
D
DAVIDT6DCM 29-09-2004, 13:48 i have this one from Moss, it's not so wide as the Trophy one, Dave
Phil_b, Love those wheels on Dunc's F how the devil does that work??. Do you happen to know what zorst is on it as well? The wheels I think are Team Dynamics Momo's 7x17", not sure if they were a straight fit or if they had adapters (I'll see him next week at Donny so I'll ask if I remember). The zorst is a Motobuild SS Freeflow with 3" tailpipes.
Voted for the Trophy one.... although the TF boot with MS's F1 would win, if you're into boot spoilers. (IMO)
andyblac 29-09-2004, 17:31 Voted F1, but if you can twist her arm to spend abit more then go for a TF Boot lid & a Trophy :D

SteveChilds 29-09-2004, 18:12 Trophy every time. IMO it suits the rear of the F perfectly.
Stevo135+ 30-09-2004, 22:05 I like the F1, and il hopefully have one before christmas.
Scarlet Fever 01-10-2004, 09:24 Yep, Trophy boot spoiler on a TF bootlid, with a TF rear bumper - perfect for each other, the angles in the bumper and the spoiler are a match and the bootlid profile is also a perfect match for the radius of the spoiler - can't do better.
But it doesn't work so well on the curvier F rear, it is overpowering and too angular IMO.
Personally I like the F1 one, just looks a little more like it should be there.
DAVIDT6DCM 08-10-2004, 20:32 Just found this photo of my mate Paul's F from Bristol who came on one of my early SWMGF runs,he had this spoiler put on his F few years back, caused quite a stir then ;-) i can tell you, he no longer has F sadly, now has one of those new Merc SL Things , ha ha i wish, lucky sod, Dave
I wouldn't put on a rear spoiler on the TF/F. I suspect it may cause front end lift - aproblem you would become aware of when attempt to go round a corner.
i'm probably in a minority here but imo i prefer the Tf bootlid on the F. Very suttle lip which you know is there but doesnt stand out top much, if you know what i mean.
I agree with you there GC, the TF bootlid and the trophy front spoiler look good together too. gives a continuity for the leading and trailing edge.
Mr Freak 22-10-2004, 15:52 Trophy mate, if at all ;)
Trophy spoiler looks best, because it was designed for the car,not some aftermarket add on.
mike satur 27-10-2004, 18:03 Oh, and MS himself says that the F-ONE spoiler has no aerodynamic effect, it is purely a styling accessory, or at least this is how he sold my one to me in 1997 anyhow. :)__________________
Sh8t did I say that?? Don't believe everything the salesman tells you.:bgrin: The effect it has is to smooth out airflow over the rear of the car, whether it produces downforce i duuno, it certainly used to keep the back of the car cleaner than without it.
"Trophy spoiler looks best, because it was designed for the car,not some aftermarket add on"
Well joe cannot agree with you there, the aftermarket one was designed for the car 'cos I fashioned it:) as with all accesories some will like a particular design some won't for whatever reason. For normal road speeds I doubt any will give any noticeable handling gains. Best get the car set up properly first:2c:
The F only got a spoiler after Gerry big Mac left Rover as he refused to sanction one as 'designer' of the car. I could swear he burst a blood vessle when he saw the full F-one kit at Gaydon.:rotflmao:
The neatest spoiler (IMO) was the boot lip spoiler I used to produce, very similar to the TF boot lip spoiler. This is scheduled to be restyled sometime in the near future:rolleyes:
BFN
Mr Freak 27-10-2004, 18:26 I would buy one based on that little sales pitch alone ..... except I already have a nice little boot spoiler as standard ;)
Mike ....... you da man :)
