: MG 5 Details?
matthew1kings 25-06-2012, 11:54 Hey all,
Any ideas when the MG 5 is coming to the UK? And rough price estimates? I also hear its coming with a 1.5 turbo? Any info on this as that would float my boat nicely :)

Two versions, a dual clutch auto and a 6 speed manual, both with 135PS - maybe.
matthew1kings 25-06-2012, 15:29 135ps ? I thought it was around the 160 mark? Definately wouldnt want that dual clutch stuff. Good old manual for me :) Any rough prices estimated yet?

That is the 1.8Turbo that makes the big MG6 reasonably fast, the fuel efficient 1.5 Turbo should be less shouldn't it?
Presumably the price will be a bit more than the standard MG5 which is currently priced at around £9-13K in China.

I'll have to go through the internet but im sure I read someone that a 1.5 Turbo was tested in china i believe which had around 150+ PS

That's not what they are bringing out though unfortunately.

Wonder if they will offer the remap?
Maybe the UK will get an uprated version, who knows?
SteveChilds 25-06-2012, 21:37 I can't see something the size of the 5 being only available in a 1.5 over here. I suspect we may well get different engines over here - perhaps including the 1.5.
Mind you, at the last factory tour, they had a nice electric hybrid unit on display in the engineering building, next to the small & large engines....
Not saying the 5 will have one, but you never know - its probably far enough away that it could.

The "electric hybrid" is currently available in the Roewe 550 so we should see that in the MG6, the Roewe 350 has pure electric power.
ROVER-25X 26-06-2012, 01:00 1.5 Turbo will prob be a good modders car, remaps, exhausts and induction kits should get the BHP up, remember the FIAT UNO 1.4 Turbo ?
They slayed Scooby's and Beemers with ease.
matthew1kings 26-06-2012, 08:01 Well I'm a little disappointed that we are getting the 135PS version. Any rough estimated economy figures? Torque figures etc? If its got decent enough torque figures it should do an ok 0-62 mph and obviously these days economy figures is always a high priority as well
James Riley 26-06-2012, 08:20 We know so little about the plans for this model in the UK that it's hard to be disappointed or otherwise. They may bring the 136PS model here, but they may also have a niche sporty model. Not every buyer of a 5 door family hatch wants a supercharger and 26" Alloys. In fact I'd hazard a guess that that most manufacturers this applies.
A 135 in the range would be a good move, the modeo sells extremely well in 130 format, we would also need lower powered models in the range. Most of the golfs on the roads are only 90's
matthew1kings 26-06-2012, 08:57 Hopefully there'll be a 3 door version as well. As for 26" alloys and supercharger, some 17's would do me fine and I'd never have a supercharger. That constant supercharger whine would do my head in. As for my disappointment I was merely disappointed it might not be offered in 150PS form.
When is it due to come to the UK anyway?

 not long then lol. On a serious note I hope it's soon I think it along with the 3 would help boost their sales nicely
I've heard mid next year. How true that is :dunno:
The 5 is the one I'm most interested in tbh

Agreed, much prefer the 5 to the 3. Fingers crossed it will be here ASAP

Can't see that, the 3 isn't out until the middle of next year, the 5's at least 6 months behind it - going by Chinese release schedules.
Of course, they may have found a way to speed things up given the flack they've had over the 6 & 3.
Besides, it would make more sense to launch them separately, they'd have more coverage in the media with 2 separate launches rather than 2 cars at one launch.

They need to do some serious advertising when they do launch and it would be much more effective if they have both cars along with the new dual clutch MG6 with all the new toys we are seeing in the facelift 550 fitted.
SteveChilds 26-06-2012, 16:21 Yup, how far off is the facelift 550, I am wondering if they're going to do the facelift when the Diesel is launched...

Should be on sale this autumn, at the moment it is still testing with a big red stop button in addition to the new electronic parking brake and big new screen for the internet and voice control:

Forgive my ignorance what is dual clutch? Is that a fancy dual mass fly?
SteveChilds 26-06-2012, 19:13 Forgive my ignorance what is dual clutch? Is that a fancy dual mass fly?
Its where two gears are engaged at once, so it makes gear changes basically instantaneous.

Ahh with you. So a automatic then.
SteveChilds 26-06-2012, 19:26 Usually refereed to as Semi Automatics, yes.
ROVER-25X 27-06-2012, 00:58 Well I'm a little disappointed that we are getting the 135PS version.
You get plenty of poke out of a MG TF with that power, plus newer cars get more out of less BHP nowdays. ;)

You mean more power out of lower cc
You mean more power out of lower cc
What he said was correct. To get 135bhp out of the TF135 you have to have the revs up at 6500, down at a more normal 2000rpm you will only get something like 35bhp. The new MG5 135 engine has a turbo and so can produce the 135bhp at lower revs as well as higher revs, down at 2000rpm it will be able to produce much more power than the old TF engine even though it is rated with the same 135 bhp.

Somthing like that ! :slap:
