Hi what should a metro 114 idle at? Having some problems with it stalling when in drive and stopped, the car is idling at 1400rpm in neutral, is this normal?

I thought it should be at a round 900rpm, what could be causing this high idle speed? How can i cure it?
As others have mentioned in my previous post about the auto box i think this could be causing the problem as the autobox thinks i want to move due to the high revs but stalls because no throttle is applied.

1400 is way too high - around 800 - 900 would be more normal.

Is it fuel injection (single point or multi point) or a carb?

it single point injection, and the idle varies quite alot from one stop to the next, and from one day to the next but always above 1000

Sounds like you've got a manifold air leak, I'd have a quick listen under the bonnet for any hissing or wheezing noises.
