My fuel pump has failed, its a right pain to fix because i have to take the tank out. :cus: There are no garages near enough to me to push the car to either...
Can i fit an after market pump to my car? Maybe in the engine bay by the filter for example. Are there any problems with doing so?

Not a good idea - it'll probably make your fuel-lines collapse as they are designed for pressure rather than vacuum installation.

Spot on... it won't work... the pipes aren't rigid enough....

UPDATE: the pump is actually ok it seams (told wrong by RAC). its the main relay thats faulty. As a tempory fix ive wired a +ve feed from the ignition switch to the wire that goes from the relay to the pump.. now the pump works. The inertia switch is still active so i presume this is safe.. :err: because it will have to be until i can get a new relay!

Yeah - the relays actually give quite a bit of trouble on the Honda-engined Rovers....don't know why...Japanese Electronics, huh?

Interesting that.... could explain why my car refuses to start once in a while.

I'd try and make sure your temp fix is just that, a temp fix. Relays are there to stop your electrics burning out, and in your bodge the ignition may fail.
