rover220gti 08-11-2002, 23:51 hiya simon, just wanted to pick your brains as i cant afford any wheels just yet, was wondering if the 17in wheels fit without any arch mods, the cars not lowered (yet) but was thinking of lowering it next then getting some wheels.
my car is a 220 GTI 1992.
thanx for any advice you can offer.
Hi mate.
Yeah 17s will fit on no problem as long as you get the right offset. anything between 35 and 40mm is fine. 38 is optimal for 17s i believe.
These wheels have been sold, sold within ten hours :)
However i did get a puncture on the way home tonight on them
I am fitting 18" wheels to my 220 turbo, hence the sale, these should hopefully fit on with no arch mods (18x7" and 215 tyres)
Cheers

rover220gti 09-11-2002, 00:24 hahaha now im tempted to go for 18's but im nervous of the cost of replacing the tyres, i used to work for kwik-fit and get stuff cheaper but im still worried it will cost a packet. think i'll stick with 17's.... but thanx for the advice simon.
rover220gti 27-11-2002, 17:08 hiya simon, i've now brought a new car and have funds left over and might be interested in the wheels if you still have them for sale, if you have can you send me some pics of them.

Very nice Si :)
Set it off a treat.
Has the drop in profile made much of a difference to the ride?

Cheers Mate :)
I've been driving about on 16"'s for 2 weeks, I have a set of lightweight track wheels u see. So its hard to do a direct comparison to the 17"s.
It definately is smoother than the 17s though, God knows why. Its a very nice drive now, even with the stiff suspension. Just how i want it :)
The effect of fitting 18"s is like fitting a bigger flywheel IMO.
It is a tad slower in first (it grips all the way though though 1st now though ). But it seems to keep the speed well and is smoother when changing gear.

NICE WHEELS Si!!!! Who ever had the 1st set of them in the country on a Rover must of been sorry to let them go
Can you all see my Mrs' Clio in the background - It's a sweet motor, were well pleased! Sell some old 18's and get a Clio instead :)
It does 1000000 MPG compared to my Rover too!

JESUS!!!!!!!
Did you know how badly he wragged the balls out of that car - Maybe the reason why he couldn't sell it in the Rover community!
God the only chap I've met to run a car on the rev limiter for ages in each gear.
