Are Arnold Clark the only place I can go for a dealer service (I presume I have to do this for the warrenty?)

Thanks,

Mark.

I have dealt with Guthrie Bros in Montrose for the past 3 years and the service is excellent only a short trip up the A90

OK cheers for that.. Will prolly try Arnold Clark this once, see what they're like. Likely to go to an independant once the warrenty has run out anyway...

Well the 180 had it's 30,000m service at Arnold Clark, and I felt the customer service was good.

They dropped me back to work, and picked me up plus cleaned the car.

The cost of the service was £190 reduced to £171 because of the 10% discount car (the car came from AC originally).

The only thing replaced was a faulty bulb...

Dunno how this price compares since I always used to have a mate do my servicing for me.

please dont go there!! if u all knew the hassle they folk have given me!! long story but no u dont have to take it there for warrenty, take it to any reputable garage. there was a new clause brought out 2 years ago that stops dealers getting all the bussness from new car services etc, so take it somewhere else, i will try to get the info for this. from Fee X

Well, I have to say I'm not so sure about them now. I had a slight squeak on the engine at low to mid revs, and mentioned it. The told me it was the alternator belt which needed tightening and lubricating... (and not doubt just the lubricating was done). The next day, it was worse than it's ever been, and they told me it did indeed need a replacement alternator belt..

So why wasn't this done straight away?

I also mentioned the plenum problem. Being a relative newbie, I wouldn't know if I had it or not. I mentioned this to the guy at the service desk.

While he wrote the other 'faults' down, he didn't write that down but said "we'll check what we can"... so I guess that wasn't checked for either, if that is at all possible without sticking it on a rolling road..

I'm Anti-Arnold.... and the wife is even more Anti-Arnold than me. I could easily write a paperback on my shocking experiences with various Arnold Group garages.

I've learned the hard way.... and whilst.. regretably, I would still buy a car from the little chap (can't get away from the fact that he's got a monopoly and usually has the cheapest prices), I wouldn't take any of my cars to his garages again for any sort of service or warranty work through choice.

By the way... if you do buy a car from him... might be an idea to take it somewhere that gives a damn for a check over, as I don't think I've had a car yet from him that has had a proper pre-delivery inspection.

gah... it's amazing... posted the message a month before the service, and no stories of woe... then after the service, stories start filtering through ;)

Ah well :) I know for next time,

Cheers all..

Take it to Claire & Pauls garage next time... at least there are normally a few nice TVR's to have an ogle at... plus their various 'projects'. And as it's an MGR approved garage, it's full MGR service history all the way !!

Mark... I would have replied sooner... but I was moving hoose on the 10th Jan, so I've not been on the forums much recently.

Why would you want to lubricate an alternator belt?

Maybe to make it slip & squeek better? If so then it worked :irked:

No worries gorrieman :) Is that Dreadnought you're talking about?

No ideas why you'd lubricate an alternator belt.. to stop it making a noise rather than stop the problem?
