Has anyone had aircon retro-fitted to a 200 series (was it a good job?). I remember seeing a couple of years ago that what is now Beadles (in Gillingham) did it for the 400 series but I've never heard of it for the 200. I've got a leather interior and am a little worried about being cooked in the summer (and subsequently roasted by the Mrs. for telling her that an electric sunroof was as good... =P - I really wanted the car!)
We have had aftermarket a/c fitted to a 1995 400; it wasn't as neat as a factory job. IT functioned as well as a factory a/c unit, but the overall fit and quality just wasn't there. There ain't no substitute for factory kit:)
Aftermarket a/c kit can be tricky to repair and diagnose (as we've found out - getting spare parts is a nightmare!)
MGR did market an OE a/c retro-fit kit some years ago - this was discontinued for some reason>=( >=(otherwise we could have sold many more. They wern't too badly priced, at about £1050:D
You oays your money and takes your choice :)
I had an aftermarket a/c fitted to a 2001 25. It uses exactly the same controls as the factory fitted version and looks very similar under the bonnet. Also seems to function just as well as a factory fitted version.
It was actually fitted at the Rover dealership before I obtained my car and was done by a company called CoolAir. Don't know the cost, since it was included in the price of my car, but the dealer said it was very resonable.
Yeah...the quality of the kits and install can vary :)
Use of OE switches is vital =P for a proper job
Retro-fit a/c usually costs about £1500-ish
