I have a 99 T reg 216 SE cabriolet which has been off the road for 2 and a half months now!!!!! all because of a broken driver's seatbelt clip (pre-tensioner). Every parts dealer I phone says 'they're on back order and have been for ages now." What is Rover playing at? I need a vehicle to get me to and from work and I am now so desperate that I am having to consider scrapping my car and buying a new one. This seems a ludicrous situation for the sake of such a small part!!!! Please help.

EVB102060 LNF the part number?

When I was in my local dealers on Saturday, there was a guy there complaining he ordered a new handbrake cable for his car in July. This item was still on back order, and his car had just failed its MOT (at the same dealership) on the handbrake.

They said the only thing they could do is to raise the status to Off Road so that it got given a priority when stocks came in. Effectivly jumping to the head of the queue.

Not a lot of use if the part has not been made, but may help speed it up when Rover get them.

Not sure of the part number as my local garage currently has the offending part. However passenger side clip is part number: EVB102070LNF. Not sure what the following is but this number is also on the passenger seatbelt housing:10G620897. Since this seems to be a BIG problem with Rover parts, do they not have a legal obligation to continue to provide parts??? I am in the same situation as the guy you mention as my car is now undriveable - in breach of Insurance! My only option seems to be to buy another vehicle!! I intend to contact Rover HQ direct - do you know of any contact names or numbers that may prove useful?

What's exactly wrong with the pretensioner Alyson?

I might have a second hand one somewhere..:err:

No promises, but there might be something upstairs at work!

The seatbelt simply won't 'click' into place. If you have one that fits I would be your slave for life!!!!!

Have today contacted Rover direct at Longbridge and they have agreed to put me in a hire car as of tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it!! It seems that Caterpillar who supply Rover parts cannot give a firm delivery date at all. I also found an interesting link on the BBC website about a guy with almost the same problem. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/2148740.stm

Yes, Rover came up trumps - though for how long I don't know. In the meantime I'll contact the dealer who's breaking and keep my fingers crossed - thanks. Found another link http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/reports/transport/index.shtml?subcat=mg which explains rather a lot!!

Fairly common problem Alyson (being unable to clip in) - as I thought.

I'm sure we had a used one upstairs at work, but I can't find it.

Will keep looking, if that's any help?

What hire car you got?

Alyson

Stu, do you have the telephone no. or the full name of the company in Norfolk? - I've tried directory enquiries and no luck! I would be very interested if they have a suitable clip.
Also to Dr Dave - if you find the one you're looking for, please let me know a.s.a.p.
The saga continues - BBC Watchdog have telephoned me and are very interested in the case!!
Watch this space!!!

Dave,
When you say its a fairly common problem would you care to elaborate 'cos I suspect the passenger one is on its way out too! The guy at Longbridge parts dept. told me Caterpillar were not releasing the part(s) as they were undergoing some test or other - is there a fault with them???
The hire car is a Nissan Almera. Q. nice actually.

Stu,
Thanks for the info. I have tried phoning them but no answer so have e-mailed them instead. Just as a point of interest though, I thought you had to renew all seatbelts in the event of a crash, so would they be still be safe from a write off???

Really it would depend if the airbag had gone off , in which case the pretensioners would have done their stuff.

As a rule, seat belts should NOT be used 2nd hand.

But your case is exceptional - anything [working] is better than nothing.

Work is 15 miles away - nothing to do tonight, so might pop down and collect some paperwork and have a looksee.

It's the wife's work Xmas do tonight and we can't get a babysitter - so a night to myself at home! LATER!

I have a used seat belt pretensioner on one of our bucket seats we fitted to our MGF 1.6i

I'm sure it is the part for your car; if you want it in the meantime, you are welcome to it - email me your address.

I'm not sure what it was changed for - it might be electronically faulty (The SRS light was on) but it clipped in no problems.

Just buy a seatbelt clip for another model...

I don't see why you can't just fit a "non-pre-tensioner" one...

Seems a simple solution to me...

I've got the pretensioner off the seat and will get it off to you Alyson

P.S. Am thinking of selling now after all the hassle. What would be the going rate for a 216 SE cabriolet T reg with full leather interior and electric top?
