Whats the difference between the k-series in a caterham and the normal lotus mg/R?
I think AC should ditch the ford v8 and use a rover v8

Is the Caterham engine played around with by the PTP boys?

I'm not sure. It might just be a boggo unit ???

Well, i dont think rover is producing many V8 anymore these day.... TVR using their own engines, Land Rover turns to b*w and MGR using a Ford V8..... not a bright future for our V8 i think.

Depends which caterham.
They use the standard engines. Some have whta is called a supersports pack fitted which consists of fastroad cams and a different MEMs as far as i know.

Then finally there is the caterham R500 which uses a 250 BHP 1.8 vhpd k-series engine.

Hi JayCee

The Rover V8 was manufactured by Rover - but was an American design - Buick from memory.

I'm sure that the China Brilliance partnership will see the emergence of a new V8. MGR is considering options with reference to the US, where a V8 is obligatory. Also useful to have for other export markets e.g. Australia, South Africa etc.

For small volumes like the X Power models, the Ford unit will do well. But for larger volumes, IMHO it will prove too expensive.

Also worth remembering that Vdub have adopted a strategy whereby where the norm is for a 4 cylinder engine, they will offer a 6. Where the norm is for a 6, they will offer an 8. And where you'd normally expect an 8, they'll offer a 12. And where you'd normally find a 12, they'll offer a 16.

I'm sure this will act as a catalyst for other manufacturers (including MGR) to extend their engine line up.

:)It was indeed a Buick engine, it was also used in the Olds Starfire but with a turbo attached. Legend has it that it was spotted by a Rover engineer on a Stateside visit, he saw it discarded in the back of a GM workshop, enquired as to it's identity, and found out it was a design that had been shelved. So Rover made an offer, and as they say "The rest is history". What is interesting is that although the design and manufacturing rights were sold to Rover in the late sixties, (when GM decided they had no use for an all-aluminium V8, perhaps because of potential warpage issues?) later, after the fuel crisis of the early seventies it was rumoured that the General offered to buy the engine back, but Rover declined this offer.
