: ZS180 - Stealth Towbar (4door)

I am looking for a towbar for my 180 saloon, but I want it to be almost invisible when its not being used.

I am going to need to tow my Platinum Silver 220BHP Mini when I eventually finish making it.

I am not too fussed about the electrics, I can hide the connector away behind the bumper, its just the ball bit.

Got any ideas??

Cheers

Stu

MG Rover's own detachable towbar is quite good. There is a picture of it in the lastest accessory book. I think it's made by brink.

Easy this one

Its a vauxhall 2.0 VX 16v motor, with a few twaeks, throttle bodies and a decent engine management.

Best thig to do with an Astra GTE, pull the engine out and scrap the rest of it :D

Yes, it's made by Brink - top notch bit of kit it is too.

I haven't had one fitted to a 45 Saloon/ZS yet - but done plenty of 75's

You're looking at the best part of £475 fitted mind.......

£345 for the bar (fitted)

and

£135 for the electric kit (fitted)

Cheers Dave,

Thats a proper shocking bit of cash to pay for a towbar mind.

I'll have to keep'em peeled for something a little less expensive.

Hmmm be careful - fitting a non-approved towbar MAY invalidate the warranty :cus:

What I actually meant was I will keep them peeled for a third party supplier, using a pukka bit of kit (Brink or Witter), just not getting fleeced by my local dealer.

I'm not going to fit some old peice of pig iron to my pride and joy.

Actually Dave, I have in my 5 minute web scour found a supply only Brink detachable for £245 inc single lecky.

So its not going to cost an arm and a leg to get that fitted.

MGR Accessories also do a bike rack attachment for their own roof rack, also a lifting system to get the bike safely onto the top.

Yeah, that's quite a bit of kit that lifting thingy.

£245 inc electrics? Sounds good to me.

Fitting shouldn't be any more than 3 hrs or so :bandit:

I still don't understand all this warranty malarky :(

I just want someone to tell me that I can mod whatever I want so long as I don't touch the engine and I won't loose my engine warranty.

i.e. wheels, suspension, brakes, interior etc but no air filters, exhausts or anything.

Bloody Rover :cus:

You can do what you like to your car, its yours after all, but (very big but) if something you do to it could have affected the failed part you are claiming for under the warranty, then they will argue the case with you, and probably not change it FOC.

If I get a 3rd party supplier to fit a Brink Detachable towbar (exactly the same kit as the main dealers fit), there is no problem at all, because they warrenty the towbar for vehicle life, and the lecky for 2 years.

You can however (I believe) replace consumable parts with a similar alternative, like Brake discs, pads, wheels, tyres as long as they don't affect the car, ie if you decide to swapout your 17" rims with 19" you might be asking for trouble by maybe putting excess loading on the swivelhubs.

Just gotta be careful what you do to it, or attempt to get MGR approval for your mod (will prove tricky I imagine).

Air filters are probably the same, if I replace my filter with a K&n version of the same thing, there is probably no problem, but if I do a cold air induction kit then I may invalidate part of my warranty.

Dave is the man to answer this one, I might have just spoke the biggest load of crap ever :D

Not bad eh Dave??

Stu - if that's a Brink jobbie - then go for it. Period.

"or attempt to get MGR approval for your mod"

No chance!!!

As an aside, there is/was talk of an MGR Approved suspension kit for ZR's elsewhere recently - I can wholeheartedly tell you this ISN'T approved by MGR!
