: Lousy FM Reception?

Hello Dave,

Do you know of any problems with the FM Aerial on ZS180s as I'm getting pretty poor reception on my Kenwood CD headunit. Radio 1 keeps dropping in and out of FM stereo and fails to find an AF frequency.

I've had the guys who installed my CD changer and Sub have a look over it and they say everything seems to be ok - but they have had problems with other rover aerials in the past and there's nothing more they can do.

In the meantime I'm still getting a poor reception.

I'm also having to drive my lovely new car (well nearly new - 5k on the clock) like a girl as I have a defective engine strutbrace bush that Rover can't give a date when the part to becomes available... :eyes

Mines OK and I live in an awful area for radio reception.

I, too, have a ZS180 with the Kenwood MP6090R MP3/Tuner.

Poor radio reception is one thing I cannot live with....it drives me up the wall>=( >=(

It might be worth trying a 'normal' 45 aerial

Try it and see what happens

Let us know what the result is, please?

I've got the Kenwood MP3 unit in my TF, I've heard other people complain about the reception with the Kenwoods, but I've never really noticed it, but then I drive around with the CDs on most of the time, that might explain it!

Seriously though, it shouldn't be as bad as you say, I'd take the car back and get the dealer to have a look at it.

I get awful radio reception in my ZR 120+. No matter what station and whatever aerial position I use.

I've got the free standard Kenwood unit in at the moment so I can only listen to the radio (Being the tapeless man I am :D)...

Cant wait to get my hands on a Sony MP70 though... That should be a good buy.

..whether they can have a look at it.

failing that I may have to go and get one of those battered cortina style clothes hanger' aerials that were all the rage in the 70s 8)

I've got loads of coat hangers at work (The overalls come with one every time!)

Free to a good home (ZR roof!!)

I changed my Kenwood unit (the FM reception was fine) to an alpine unit which tunes in like a rocket. It only fails to pick up weaker stations when parked in the shadow of my home garage. If the ariel is fully pushed home in the back of the unit, I can only suggest you live in a weak reception area (which wouldn't cover everywhere so this probably isn't the casse) or there is some other problem (fractured cable, poor connection to roof ariel) as the reception in my ZS is great.
