Go easy on me as this is my first post ...

Maybe you can help ... I bought this car (1994 Rover 216 SLi) a couple of days ago and today noticed that the check engine light is illuminating. It lights for a while but if I stop restart the engine it sometimes stays off.

Everything sounds just fine and I have done some of the basics to try to solve the problem (changed air and oil filters, fuel pump spark plugs and oil).

Our Rover dealer charges around £60 just to plug his equipment in so that is a last resort (specially as the problem apears to be intermittent).

Also

I did consider buying a fault code reader but do not know my engine type (K type etc.) although I am almost certain it is a Honda engine.

What would you suggest I should do?

Don't think you need a fault code reader - you just need to find the LED on the ECU that will flash the fault code, someone please correct me if that's wrong as I'm not too familiar with the Honda ECU. You could always grab a copy of the Haynes Automotive Diagnostic Fault Codes manual from Halfords or somewhere - or just browse through it in the shop like I do!

Yes your engine is the Honda unit, BTW.

Aha, I found the LED (for some reason I thought my ECU had no LED).

It flashes 13 times (all at the same speed so I assume quickly).

Fault code 13 points to the BARO Sensor (Atmospheric Pressure).

Does anybody know where it is located, how much they cost etc.

Thanks

It's in the dash somewhere - about £180 quids-worth.
